Dog throwing up - ideas? (UPDATE..off to vet)

If you’re going to the vet anyway have them pull blood to check for Addison’s and Atypical Addison’s. My 4yo Boxer presented similarly, they diagnosed-ish Atypical Addison’s, but we ended up losing her. I still can’t tell whether it was the AA or whether she got tainted Diamond kibble, as the AA should have been very treatable and she just didn’t respond at all.

Hopefully it’s nothing major

Thank you for the additional replies. I have owned her since 3 mo and switched foods a few times over the years, never with this issue. I did start increasing her food and will see what happens, but after more digging I may return the food. There are no recent recalls, but are other complaints of sick dogs on this food. I don’t want to take that risk.

So… Any suggestions on food? No allergies so grain free is not necessarily a requirement for her; she has not been on grain free historically.

Sigh…

My English Cocker does it - sometimes sporadically, and sometimes frequently. When she goes through a frequent phase, I give her a splotch of pumpkin in between meals to fill her up, because I do sometimes wonder if she’s not just hungry. If she is feeling stressed, she will eat her entire meal even more quickly than she does most of the time, and then throw it right back up, and if I am not quick, eat it right back up again.

Well yesterday morning she wrote me up and had a little blood in her vomit. Took her to the vet and her pancreas was irritated but she was still otherwise normal with a full appetite and normal energy - no other symptoms.

Sent blood work to the lab and instructed me to feed 2/3 c chicken and 1/3 c organic pumpkin over weekend. Test results will be in tomorrow morning. Once she stops getting sick we will slowly introduce her to Fromm dry food. Vet also gave me something to help her tummy feel better.

She woke me up again this morning and got sick 4:45 am again… Always around the same time. This time no blood just a small amount of bile. Gave her a soaked piece of bread and back to bed.

:frowning:

Glad she got checked out to ease your mind.
With dog food, I do think that the key is to find a food that agrees with a particular dog. There may be nothing wrong with the food. It may just be an issue with it not agreeing with your dog. I feed one of the Fromm foods to my dog that has had the bilious vomiting issue and he does really well on it. I have a young female and she didn’t do well on it, but she was on the large breed puppy food that has grain and she doesn’t do well with grain. They have some new formulas right now, too.
If you are looking into options at the same time, I’m having good luck with the Petcurean Now line for my female. A good friend’s dog is trying out the Horizon Pulsar food and doing well on that. Apparently the dog is picky even though he is a Lab, but he likes that food.

We’ve been through pancreas problems with our dog, too. Bland diet, and we added this for a week or so:

Hope it clears quickly, and good luck!
