Dog wanting to attack/kill cats?!

This may help with dog and cat issues

The Denver Dumb Friends League (www.ddfl.com) has many helpful handouts that may assist with training issues if you have a clue and just need a little direction; otherwise, just like with horses, a pro is the way to go.

Take a peek and good luck:

I had an adopted pitty/dobey mix who loved kitties - dead ones!! It took the better part of a year, but she got over it. I had the added issue of cats that had no idea about dogs, too. Thinking back, I must’ve really liked that dog to put up with everything she had to offer! Bless her heart and may she be resting in peace ~ she lived to be 14, she was very cute (and hyper)…

My dog acts like this too but as it turns out she won’t hurt the cats, like yours when she catches one she just stands there while it claws her in the eyes. Boy, does she love to make them run though. One of my friends cats refuses to run from her and she’ll push him around the floor with her nose trying to make him get up and run. He seems to enjoy frustrating her.

I’ll be honest- I encourage it at home, I hate all of my neighbors cats and would be very happy if they never set foot in my yard again. I prefer not to have catshit all over my vegetable garden and I had to take my bird feeders down because they killed so many birds. And they fight at 1am.

As far as I’m concerned we need more coyotes around here.[/QUOTE]

Wait till your dog decides to leave the property because it sees a cat - you might be paying one hell of a vet bill for someone’s cat, or burying your dog when it gets hit during the chase, as my neighbour found out the hard way.

PREY DRIVE FOR DUMMIES (Go Fish)

“Any of my dogs go after a cat with intent to kill is one dead dog…”

Really? Why do you think we have dogs today? Because NATURE BESTOWED ON THEM PREY DRIVE TO SURVIVE IN THIS WORLD. THEY CANNOT TRAIN THEMSELVES NOR RESTRAIN THEMSELVES. THAT IS UP TO THE HUMANS - AND WHEN THE HUMANS FAIL AND A DOG IS ALLOWED ACCESS TO A CAT AND HASN’T BEEN TRAINED TO LEAVE IT, THE HUMAN IS TO BLAME 100%. Yes Go Fish, that means if one of YOUR dogs kills a cat, YOU ARE AT FAULT. So the question isn’t what to do with the dog, but rather the owner who failed - who possesses human reasoning skills and control over the environment in which his or her pets are placed. No violence needed on the human’s part, just COMMON SENSE.

Hey, this is a five year old thread. WhatsamattaU?
