The last dog I owned was very weird about dog dishes too. I got her from her breeder as a puppy. Went thru various aha moments and finally tried feeding her on a cookie sheet. It occurred to me that she had been fed from a container that she and her 9 siblings all ate out of. She was very funny about the depth of the dish. So started with the cookie sheet and gradually changed to a large rectangular pan with short sides then a round pan with short sides(like a pie pan) and eventually got her to a large dog dish then gradually to a size appropriate dish.
