Done with Triple Crown Complete: What would you switch to?

What part of AL are you in? I’m in the south/central eastern part of the state, and I also gave up on Triple Crown after a decade of loyalty over quality control issues. I switched to Seminole Welness Dynasport and was VERY, VERY happy with the results. Granted, my horse needed the recommended amount of feed, not just a handful, but it is a high fat/sticky feed, so supplements do stick well. It’s in roughly the same price range as Triple Crown products. Check around - you might be surprised at what is available to you. I know Seminole has been pushing hard to expand throughout the southeast recently. I can even send you the local rep’s cell number if you want - just PM me.

I think I am buying TC ration balancer from the same store ( Garrison’s?). I have not had any problems with it. I have gotten moldy Nutrena low starch stuff from TSC though. Not many choices in our neck of the woods though.

Yes, garrisons. I’ll ask about the ration balancer

Re: Your picture. That is not a brick issue that is a very bad mixing issue. I would call TC to complain. Where ever TC is being manufactured around there has a serious mixing issue in their manufacturing line. I would not hesitate to send those pics to TC- and hopefully TC will get in touch with whomever is manufacturing the product in that area.

However, switching to a pelleted feed like TC Lite should fix that problem since there is no mixing needed. Honestly if your horses only need a tiny bit of grain they should be getting something more highly fortified like the Lite anyways.

I have tried to be plain that there are TWO QC ISSUES:

1 bricked feed bags
2 ridiculously dry feed in other bags

I have pointed readers to the TC FB page where you will see that photo. And others.

now someone will read this post and think I only had issues with 3 bags of feed.

Definitely try Pro Elite Performance. It was formulated by the person who originally formulated TC Complete. (I don’t remember details, but you can find it by searching this forum why the TC changed). I switched this past winter when the TC changes started to manifest. I’ve not had ANY issues with the ProElite Performance. Price is comparable. Great feed.

If you’re seeing so many QC issues in the Complete, I would be hesitant to go with something like the ration balancer or the lite. There’s still MIXING that happens in those, just before the pelleting process. You may still have terrible inconsistencies, but it will be less apparent…and that is a little scary (at least to me!)

Has anyone CALLED TC with these issues? Sure, social media is popular and easy and all, but some actual 1:1 contact might get your further. In the past, TC has not been shy about pulling a milling contract when the job hasn’t been done to their specs.

The feed store should be able to get ProElite if they were able to get TC before the milling went to Purina.

I have fed TC complete and senior, Pro Elite brand from Nutrena and Dynasport and Equalizer from Seminole. I am so happy that Seminole products are available in my area. I went from having to feed 8-10 lbs of feed to just the Equalizer now. When my horse still needed to gain condition he was getting 6lbs of the Dynasport. Seminole produces fabulous feed and they have great quality control.

I have contacted TC on three different occasions and been sent coupons. I’ve submitted the photos they wanted every time to their regional person. I prefer emails to calls.

TMares, Im with you. At this point, I’d give up and try a different feed. And I agree with just using the Standlee Timothy pellets, slightly dampened before serving to get hoss to eat any supplements.

If you were inspired, I’d go up the food chain at Triple Crown and speak to whomever is the regional sales directors boss with my complaint. It’s easy for them to send out coupons. Not so easy to track down where these inconsistencies originate and how to address change going forward.

Sure, I do too. Sometimes calling is a hell of a lot more effective and lends a lot more weight to your complaint. It might be worthwhile.

As I stated in the OP I am done with TC feed.

i quit commercial “complete” for “fortified” feeds years ago. I mix my own feeds from single-ingredient sources. It means having a little more storage space set aside, but my animals are thriving on it and I feel better because I’m not paying for filler ingredients with limited nutritional value, extra sugars, etc.

My horses like the purina enrich ration balancer, also the standlee alfalfa pellets. I would think either of those would work for you.

Blueseal Winning Touch Min-a-vite products can be ordered online and go a long way. They work to fill in the gaps for easy keepers. The vitamins and minerals are the better end of the spectrum, too. I mix my own complete feed, and both of mine are doing well. I fed TC Senior for a long time (live in Missouri), along with Omega Horseshine. The Horseshine is a good product. TC became too variable.

I quit feeding TC Senior after getting a bunch of corn in bags. When I contacted TC, their response was “oh yeah, sometimes that happens after we clean the line.” I don’t really care to pay 25 bucks for a bag of feed with that much corn in it.

I switched to Tribute Kalm n ez and love it.

Is Purina ration balancer an option? That with some alfalfa cubes may do the trick.

I’m surprised you haven’t found corn in the Tribute or any other product you use. It is basically an industry standard to use corn to clean the line. I can’t think of a product I’ve purchased regularly in my lifetime that didn’t have occasional corn kernels, including things like alfalfa cubes or oats… which is incredibly annoying when you own a horse with a corn allergy.

I haven’t found any corn in the Tribute. I’m fine with using corn to clean the lines, by all means, I love clean lines!

But I was ending up with an excessive amount of corn in multiple bags from multiple lots. Was I just unlucky? Who knows?

What I do know is that I’m paying ten bucks a bag less for my feed now, with only a slight difference in NSC, and still quite happy.

I was a little peeved that I spent that much money to have low NSC, corn free feed…only to get corn in it. It was a bummer, I had really liked it prior.
