It makes absolutely no sense to pay even half that amount to create a foal that you hope may make a nice sport horse when you can breed to the best of the best, already proven at the top of his discipline, already thrown horses who are competing at the top of their discipline for a fraction of $7500. Neither is a guarantee of course as we are dealing with genetics and nurture but one obviously has a much better chance of being successful than the other.
I understand Shah still has ownership; does Shah have mares?
Id doubt youād be paying the full 7500 fee to breed an outside mare to him. Iām sure a deal can be worked with them. Doubtful in the first few years but if someone was seriously interested; Iām sure something could be worked out
Iād breed to Perfect Soul at Darby Dan (stud fee of 2000) before I bred to Dortmund.
Because Iāve invested myself in this topic for some reasonā¦
Confo shot of Dortmund is up:

Heās certainly matured and is better looking than I last saw him as a gangly 3 y/o. Although I find the bad photo editing distracting. Itās even worse in the full size photo on their website.
Oh my! That is a bad picture! He looks like heās going to tip over on his front end. Did they not have a few extra minutes to stand him up properly? The bad photo editing I didnāt even notice until I zoomed in (on my phone). Seen much better pictured of standardbreds! And nothing against the breed we have a couple of them but some of them arenāt terribly pretty and the budgets smaller.
Since I canāt seem to stop with this threadā¦
I paid Dortmund a visit today. He is a BIG boy! I didnāt get great pics; I snapped a few in his stall that turned out lousy, and then the cold zapped my iPhone battery. I found his personality to be a lot of fun in the little bit of time I spent with him. Iād send a mare to him in the right circumstance. I hope he serves Maryland well; we could sure use a star.
