Double bridle recommendations

I have the stubben switch double, and I quite like it. It was around $300 ordered on ebay shipped from the UK. Less reins, of course.

I purchased the Anky double bridle. My Trakehner mare had a very delicate face, and the 1/2 straps yet well padded crank worked very well for her. I also purchased rolled reins that may her whole self look better and I use on my current gelding now. He’ a Westfalen and also has a delicate face, I hope someday he will wear the same double bridle.

Check the bridles from Montar. I have one with the cut back for the ears and it is really nice. The ear cut outs are in just the right spot, and it has a cool opening at the poll. IMO runs a bit large but the folks at CU@X tack in Wellington are super easy to work with. I had to trade my cheek pieces for cob… (Lusitano. Short broad head. Horse crown piece and noseband, cob cheeks, oversize browband… LOL)

I have a premiera double bridle rolled with plain browband in cob size. They do make flat leather. It comes in black and brown with a blingy browband or a plain browband. I purchased mine in Europe (Netherlands) since the US markup was significant. Had to purchase the crown pad separate, but not a big deal. My sticky point was I didn’t want a monocrown headstall. I have a schumacher that is a monocrown and it has so many holes in it to adjust the bit height that it makes me angry after dropping so much $$$ a number of years ago. Plus the cheek pieces never laid right. My other double is a frankenstein of two snaffle bridles with a bradoon hanger because I couldn’t find a non-monocrown bridle with a patent nose band in oversize. So I’ve gone both ways.

Those look interesting - do they run true to size? My guy can wear a cob on the largest holes or a horse on the smallest in most headgear.

My gelding is in the same situation. I have an older one of that brand in VB/Cob size and it fits him fine. I recently ordered a rolled drop noseband bridne in a Cob from them and it was way too small. So quite frankly, I have no idea. But I am sure you could ask for measurements.

I would say yes. My friend has a horse size and it fits accurate and hers has held up very well. My horse that has the premeira has a very fine head. He’s really in-between horse and cob like your guy. I got the cob, so I was on the last hole on each of the bit pieces until it broke in and stretched. But the browband and the nose band fit very well. The buckles are at the top of the crown piece, so if you ask for measurements, just keep that in mind. If they can’t/don’t provide measurements, shoot me a PM and I’ll measure mine.

I second the Vespucci at that price point and wanting something for a finer boned face.
