Interesting comment. I was looking at Smartpak’s bridles at Equine Affaire last fall, and when I asked about a catalog the person helping me said she thought they were eliminating the big catalog, and sticking to the smaller ones that come out more frequently. My thought is that the portion of their customers who shop online is huge enough to justify not sinking huge money into the cost of a master catalog. Although I do miss it in the bathroom…
I love the big catalog, but I only need one a year. I only want one a year.
I love browsing the local brick and mortar Dover store but I tend not to shop from the catalog. It’s only about a 30 minute drive for me. I do hope they keep their stores operating.
Dover bought Libertyville Saddle Shop, which is about a 40 minute drive from me. I like to take the occasional trip down there, usually combined with a visit to Northbrook Court or Old Orchard. The prices on some things aren’t bad, and it’s a fun time, as it’s so much bigger than any of the tack shops around here. I’d hate to see it close.
I don’t order much from the catalogue, either-- the shipping is just too much! And I don’t see why they send out all those big thick catalogues plus the sale flyers. One big book a year, plus sales flyers would be plenty.
Didn’t Dover even send out a hardcover catalogue a few years back? Or am I imagining things?

Agree. A big catalog once a year, maybe with a winter/holiday supplement bigger than a sale flyer but not as large as the normal catalog, and then small sales ads as appropriate. (Like one just of helmets and related items if they are doing a sale for helmet awareness day would be a reasonable size for a sales flyer.)
I do like hard copy catalogs, particularly for browsing and getting gift ideas, but it gets annoying when they pile up because one company sends so many that are basically the same thing.
Well - certainly doesn’t seem like they are going to shut Dover down any time soon.
They are opening a store in California!!! Wish it was in Nor Cal and not 450 miles away in OC
Laguna Hills! That doesn’t help at all!
But maybe once they get used to trucking gear to this coast they’ll find it rational to open a northern California location.
