Draw reins that aren't too long

What draw reins do people have that they like? The problem I keep having is when I shorten my reins a lot of the draw reins are so long they just continuously get stuck on my toe. Anything without rope too, I have a rope pair that are short enough but then you have to deal with the fact that the rope to leather piece doesn’t slide on the bit very well

I have these and love them. Full length is leather. 9’ long so I don’t have trouble with them being too long. They also come in 3/4" width if you prefer that over the 1/2" wide.

Just get the leather ones you like shortened? It should be a while-you-wait fix for any decent saddler to move a buckle on one rein and shorten the other.

Knot the end? Get them shortened?

Get an old racing “yoke”. This is the part of the running martingale that goes around the neck, and to the girth. It has a center ring at the chest that the bib is snapped to for race training. Then get a crappy set of “split” western reins, thin ones (old used ones are best, very flexible and pliable and bend and run easy), and a snap with a ring on the end. Attach the western reins to the snap. Snap it on to the yoke ring when you want to use a set of draw reins. Run the draw reins from the inside to the outside of the bit rings, to your hand, and knot them. Since draw reins are loose for 95% of the time you are using them, with this set up, they are not dangling between the front legs.

Or you could spend the time getting this horse over it’s back correctly and forego draw reins all together.

Draw reins aren’t always used as a training shortcut.

I get mine mine shortened by my boot repair guy. Have them trim at the ends, not the buckle (if there is one)

Actually, draw reins are ALWAYS a training short cut that often does irreparable damage to the horse’s training.

No good comes from cranking down the head.

When used PROPERLY they do not crank the head. EVER. But no one will ever win that argument with one who holds opinion that cranking the head is all they’re used for…
