My calves are like Pop Eye’s forearms, it makes buying tall boots very annoying. For your budget you may want to check out Petrie Sydney boots, I think they’re around $250? I have a pair that broke in the same day. They’re not stiff but they’re good enough that with a polish up you could take them to a rated show. Pretty comfortable boots and quite cheap.
So you’re saying regular height (18"), 16.5" calf, size 8 foot? Try the Ariat Volant S or V-sport in a 7.5, Regular Full calf. Ariat wide calf will be too wide at 17.5".
Very good elastic in those boots and soft calf leather make them fit a lot of different people. Or go with Petries, which have an extensive range of calf sizes and heights.
Just a quick update on the boot situation. I have decided to go ahead and order the Petrie Melbourne field boot in black. I’ve ordered them from https://www.ooteman.nl and should have them in the next couple of weeks. I’m excited for them to arrive. The black field boot was on super sale, and even with shipping charges and estimated duties I will still be within budget.
So now I am excitedly counting sleeps until they arrive. The boots are out of stock and Ooteman will have them shipped in next week and then send them on to me. I will give another update, with pictures when they arrive.
Thanks again everyone for your help with my dilemma.
FYI, I just saw a new Mountain Horse dress boot available this fall. I think it was advertised on Centerline Styles. Not cheap (?$450) but nice looking.
I have MH back-zip dress boots for schooling at home, but prefer my Ariat field boots for showing. Just my luck I’d be at a show and the zipper would break! So I have old pull-on field boots that I got around the turn of the century! Since I only use them for shows, they still look nice and new.
My boots arrived today. The Melbourne Field Boot by Petrie fits me like a glove. I ordered a UK 6 (USA ladies size 8) foot, 47 cm in height & a 40 cm calf.
Hands down the quality is far better than what was available in my area. I plan on ordering from ooteman again. In the end I paid less than $300 CAD.
I now need to wait a few days before I have a chance to ride in them.
