Lincoln is fantastic in the contact in both bridles. Showed his Third Level year in the double as was getting him ready for FEI and they were required. After a two year break from showing due to injury, I rehabbed in the snaffle and just haven’t put him back in the double yet as no need They are now also legal at CDIs. I showed Warsteiner in both double and snaffle at a Grand Prix over the years.
I disagree. I’d like to learn some the details as to why someone chose this or that head dress. I think it’s educational and can help another horse out there via allowing his rider to see a new way of looking at things.
Not that I rode GP, but my horse was one I would never have put a double on were it not for the culture of “the double.”
We schooled half steps, canter pirouettes, I-1 movements etc. in a loose ring snaffle beautifully. He was a horse that was super sensitive, very light in the mouth, very responsive, and absolutely did not need a curb ever. He never ever got strong, I schooled him through 2nd in a jumping hackamore (a glorified halter), and even galloped him in a field in that hackamore with zero need for it for brakes. He was a very Thoroughbredy Hanoverian.
So I would definitely have been one to opt to show in a snaffle over a double, FWIW.
My GP horse was occasionally tricky to keep honest in the bridle with the double-- had a tendency to get very upright in his neck and drop his brisket in tense situations (i.e. shows). I showed him in the snaffle to maintain a more honest connection and keep his neck a bit longer.
