Dressage Freestyle Cancelled?

It’s cancelled completely. Got it in my Media Kit email. Took a screenshot but it’s too big to post. Dressage freestyle is completely cancelled.

Why wouldn’t they hold it at night say tonight instead?

The Tryon website sucks and is woefully behind. They promised teice dsily updates on the weather, and that hasn’t happened either.

It’s there now.

Also heard they are not doing refunds for any reason

The weather won’t permit.

“A rest day to be scheduled, preferably between Competitions two (2) and three (3).”

My impression from the article I read, was that many of the European riders refused to ride and ship out the same day and the transport could not be re-arranged. Certainly can’t blame them for that. It’s too bad that the WEG has been such a mess.

At least the Eventing cross country went fairly well.

No - they did not want to compete and ship out the SAME day.

Yes, that is what I read but not what I wrote. I’ll edit.

Link to shipping schedule; https://inside.fei.org/system/files/…ryon%20USA.pdf

They were due to compete on Sunday and ship on Monday.
There are 9 daily flights out, starting Sunday 16th. scheduled with military precision.
Any change would be bound to have big repurcussions.

i am sure but flights get cancelled and delayed every day, God knows enough of mine have.

There are only so many planes and so many flight crews available. Remember, these planes are especially configured for transporting multiple horses and accompanying supplies, grooms, etc. They are not in great abundance like passenger planes. Also bear in mind the logistics involved of having the appropriate equipment and ground crews, etc., set up and in place for arrivals/departures, not to mention veterinary personnel, as well as the ground transport vehicles and crews, and whatever quarantine facilities are needed on the receiving end. AND they have to service the planes and get them turned around ASAP to come back for another load, which requires the availability of airport ground crew. If they don’t ship the dressage horses out on the flights scheduled for Monday, Sept. 17, it throws their entire schedule out of whack and they may not be able to make the rest of the flights as scheduled.

Looking at that .pdf, if I’m reading it correctly, there are indeed nine flights out, but the first one is on Sunday, 9/16, and there’s only one on Monday, 9/17. The others depart on September 18 or later. See page 9 of the document to verify, and I’ll edit or delete this post if incorrect. If a large amount of rain is forecast Saturday night and into Sunday night, what are the odds of the Monday flight being cancelled?

ETA: looking at DownYonder’s post above, very good points are made about the logistics of this operation. I’m still wondering if the weather won’t be more of a problem than they hope.

As above ^^ this could present a problem for Monday flights.

Dressage cannot take place on reining footing no matter how much dragging and packing they do. Reiners like it deep and fluffy for their stops and spins. Dressage horses would pull and tear soft tissue in that footing. No way would an international level rider risk their horse in that.

The equine flights are scheduled around the competition schedule and cannot be changed due to a schedule change of a day or more. That just doesnt happen for the reasons given above. This is a highly complex schedule that has been worked out to almost the minute. Changes just aren’t possible.

Weather forecast for Greenville on Monday is not that bad. They have timed and arranged all the loads of horses as they finish their events. If you go messing with the plan, chaos will ensue.

I know an arena that is used for gaited horses (hard), dog agility (harder), hunter/jumpers (softer), dressage (softer), reining (deep and soft), barrel racing (loose, but not too deep), cattle working, and even monster truck events (soft, deep, including deep holes), and who knows what else. All the same material, it just depends on how it’s prepared–and of course, that the people handling it know what they’re doing. I DON’T know for a fact that the footing in the TIEC indoor is capable of that, but it isn’t necessarily impossible.

But the change of the Eventing Show Jumping from Sunday to Monday does not seem to have had any similar “repercussions”
