I was hoping Laura would get on the podium for individual medals. I’m getting tired of seeing Isabell Werth and more particularly some of what people are talking about as over-scoring for the Germans.

Isabell was robbed last year at the Europeans and I feel that Laura was robbed today. Isabell’s ride was fine
to score 89+%? I just don’t see it.

I beg to differ. She had a stellar ride a bobble maybe in the piaffe. She is a clutch rider and comes through.

I know as an Amurican, I am pulling for Laura, but if I could see flaws in Isabell’s ride, it should have gone to Laura.

Compared to the others, the horse seemed pretty flat and the riding uninspiring, and Isabel looked BUSY up there. Laura had some small bobbles but so did Isabel, and Isabel’s ride definitely seemed overscored to me given all that.

Maybe they figured they wanted to give this to Charlotte. But they know two Germans would be on podium. Do judges think like this? {I am sure they don’t, but it is a bit of a head scratcher}

IW had crazy luck in the draw which certainly helped her. Definitely some halo points going on.

There is definitely a halo effect in judging. That said, Charlotte definitely deserved the Gold, although I am not a huge fan of her new music. I have no problem with Isabell winning Silver. Yes, she had a small bobble here or there, but so did most everyone else. And I am thinking that if Laura could get Diddy to actually sit a little bit in piaffe, she could really bump those scores up.

So happy for both Charlotte and Laura! Such fairytale stories behind both of their journeys. I even think Valegro could have eeked out a higher score since it looked like Charlotte was riding him just a pinch conservatively as not to make any mistakes. Will miss this pair immensely and can’t wait to see what Charlotte produces next.

I have great respect for Isabel as well. She has not had the years of partnership as the others and on top of that, she was on a mare. Love the mares and have seen many this Olympics that are beyond impressive, but they are often just a tad more unpredictable and the fact that she was able to get this relatively young mare to perform so on point was amazing. Isabel will always be a force to be reckoned with
