Dressage Show coats: What are you wearing?

I bought this one on eBay last summer…it was an emergency purchase as my coat got a hole and I needed something quick. I paid $150 CND shipped.

I was so happily surprised when it came. First of all, it zips under the buttons. It is super lightweight, and light. You can move easily, and easy to clean. Love it!

unless you have a short torso. THen the longer coat bunches up in front and you sit on it in back. The bottom button is usually below my belt and so if buttoned it pushes the jacket up when I sit in the saddle.

Personally I’d do paint, markers may bleed ink on the skin.

I used a Sharpie to color out the carrots logo. No problemo after multiple washes and wears in hot, humid conditions. MMeqCenter, are you sure you want to color the piping out? I think it looks sharp! I like the fabric dye idea - dye the whole coat so it is one color.

Makes me look like I borrowed my older brother’s suit coat to ride in.

personally the way the frock coats flare out, I personally think they make people look larger than they are.

Great options include: Equiline, Animo, Alessandro
Albanese Motionlite, Pikeur, Horseware, Grand Prix Rylie or Quinn, and RJ Classics softshell. As a consignment, I have sold probably 60 Animo Jackets in the past year and many to dressage riders in many colors other than black. You would be shocked how many dressage riders actually messaged me on a lilac jacket wanting to know if it’s usdf approved! There are so many wonderful options and fits- if you are curious about fit or quality send me a pm

I’ve never considered a colored coat. I am going to pay more attention this year to see if anyone around here is wearing anything colored on themselves or their horse. Typically it is all black and/or white. The trend last year seemed to be “bling” and shiny things.

I’ll try to be more relevant with my comments in the future.

thank you!

Thanks everyone for the replies !

Last time I watched at a dressage show, it seemed mostly like everyone was in longer coats so it didn’t seem like the trends made it up here yet.

Will definitely be looking more at the Pikeur jackets.

I fell in love with an RJ Classics jacket but the price point on the one that I love just seems extreme.

I love the shorter trend - and I have a longer waist. Also the ones with zippers have been a godsend to those of us who have something more than a B cup. No more popping buttons going down the centerline.

I have a Pikeur Sarissa II that I ordered from Amira in the UK. Came relatively quickly - and half the price of anywhere in the states. If you go with them I’d recommend checking on their stock before ordering - they have always been quick to respond to emails for me.

I have several friends that swear by the Equiline brand but they get pricey, quick.

I have the Pikeur Skarlet in navy with a grey McCrown collar that I special ordered from a UK shop (Equine and country). Took a couple months to come in bc it was custom ordered but it was less than $200 and fits great. If you do order from overseas I recommend trying on coats locally to ensure sizing is correct since it’s a PIA to do s return internationally.

Does anyone have one of the AA Motion Lite jackets? Cool? Flattering? Would I need to wear a long sleeve shirt under or are they opaque enough for short sleeves?

They’re very strange. Sort of like an open waffle weave. Dover now carries them in the store so you can try them on if you have one close to you.

I have a zippered, lite weight washable show coat for hot weather but in the winter I still go back to my Diana wool coat. For fit and flattery, I never found anything better for me. I have loved it forever and it’s kind of a good luck totem.

That’s good to know, I’m close-ish to a Dover. I have a Pikeur Skarlett, which I like a lot and fits well, and it’s cooler than my wool coats, but I’m pretty heat intolerant.

Good to know. I bought a navy one from calevo in Germany and there are no laundering instructions anywhere! Love this jacket, just the right amount of bling.

I turn it inside out and wash it in a big mesh laundry bag on delicate cycle. Dry flat or hang it up to dry - do not tumble dry. Comes out great!

I had to get mine tailored, too! Looks like it was made for short, wide people. Took about 3 inches in on each side. Now I love it (I also have the grey, but love the white piping - was trying to figure out how to add more!).
