Horses loading in the big one.
Invasor now the fav at 5/4.
Invasooooor!!
The best horse in the world without any shadow of a doubt. A great stretch duel with Premium Tap, who ran a great race, but Invasor pulled away in the last ½f.
Discreet Cat was last, never got into to the race at all.
Kiaran McLaughlin is overjoyed, couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
What a last year it’s been for the young Panamanian jockey, Fernando Jara. He must be on cloud nine.
The old turf horse from Hong Kong, Bullish Luck, is best of the rest in 3rd.

I believe that Invasor won’t ever lose if he has any say in it at all. Premium Tap ran a great race but I get the feeling Invasor is a competitor like Seabiscuit and can stare them down at the end. He has a lot of heart. But kudos to PT too and both won a lot of $. Too bad Discreet cat wasn’t in it–would have liked to see the 3 compete.
 Wow.
Double wow!!!
INVASOR ROCKS!
I just caught the ABC coverage of the last race on their program - impressive! No Lasix, no problemo We are seeing in our midst (and this isn’t a shock to those who have been watching him all last year) a super horse take the stage.
Tough as shoe leather - from beating Sun King in a thriller in the Whitney Handicap last year to the Breeders’ Cup to even clipping heels in the Donn Handicap … he takes the licks and beats 'em all.
Premium Tap gets a big nod too for being right there with him but Fernando was toying with PT and gave orders to Invasor to finish him off.
Brilliant and beautiful!
“Eenvasor, beause he is the best”
Discreet Cat should just stick to the mile and enjoy being king of that distance.
As an aside, I only see the results for Lava Man not the video yet - anything wrong in particular with him? Dead last in that large turf field and after looking so good in his workouts there in Dubai seems exceptionally odd
What a nice thing for Invasor’s trainer to say about the sheik, “What do you give a man who had everything?” A great horse and a great win. So true.
And Jara, what a jockey, he sat so chilly down that stretch.
Kudos to to Premium Tap and his connections, they have sure proven he was no flash in the pan last year.
What a great racing event, it’s now on my lifetime list, along with August in Saratoga.
About 2f out, when the field started to kick, as you typically see in a top class Turf race, he stopped like a rock.
Two things
a) he was out of his depth against this class of turf horse.
b) no racedays meds. Methinks he likes his Lasix.
Btw, the replays are up on the World Cup site… http://dubaiworldcup.com/media/video/video_2007.asp#

Which easily could be the key factor. As Jerry Bailey pointed out when some horses go off it, as soon as they bleed and taste blood, they stop. Easily that could’ve been the case for Lava Man. And if it was the case then going into the WC [instead of the turf] would’ve been moot.
Thanks for the letting us know the replays are now up on the DRC site!
It goes without saying - but I will anyhow - the camera shots are always excellent for the Dubai races! No b.s. with ants on the backstretch, rather feeling like you know just how tense or relaxed the horses are as they move along. You could tell by watching the video how calm Invasor was and how he was waiting for the signal to go.
Did anyone catch the time? Just a shade under 2:00 (I think it was 1:59.9) for the 2nd fastest running. To those who think Invasor plods along, that might have been the case in 2006 - he’s a monster in 2007.
I pitty the fool, for now, who thinks they can knock him off in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Stalker? No need. He can set the pace or sit back - having that flexibility in style is exceptionally dangerous for those who try and predict what he’ll do.
I bet they are still partying in Uraguay
For me (now a fan because of Barbaro) it seemed strange to see people leading the horses instead of the ponies. And, the area behind the gates looked frighteningly small.
Which method of leading and loading is more common in Europe and Asia? The one we use or the one Dubai uses? (I assume they can afford anything they want.)
The sheiks aren’t real demonstrative guys, are they?

Methinks the party in Uruguay will go on for days!!!
Money, money, money …
The $3.6 million winner’s share of the World Cup purse boosted Invasor’s earnings to $7,804,070, the fourth-best total in racing history. Should Invasor complete his season with another Breeders’ Cup Classic win, he would surpass Cigar atop the all-time earnings list [in the US].
McLaughlin said Invasor might next start in the Suburban Handicap (Grade 1) on June 30 at Belmont.
Last year Invasor won the Suburban Handicap too. Only two other horses have ever won that race twice: Kelso ['61 & '63] and Crusader ('26 & '27).
Interestingly, they DWC paid $$$ to 6th and Sheikh Mo is the only owner who doesn’t get paid. The 6th place finisher got $120k.

I believe that we in North America are the only folks who pony horses to the post.
The sheiks…Sheikh Mohammed (owner of Discreet Cat) looked a little upset at the trophy presentation to Invasor’s connections.
Invasor is owned by Sheikh Mo’s older brother, Sheikh Hamdan. Right after the race they showed Sheikh Mo speaking with Dettori and bin Suroor, obviously upset about DC’s non-effort. This was before Invasor was back to the winner’s area.
Only the US uses ponies. The starting gate area is marked by ropes held by assistants behind the gate. As the loading takes place they move closer to the “barrier.”
I thought Dettori showed class, he didn’t duck the questioner but he didn’t try to blame anything, just said it wasn’t their day.
Bravo Invasor!!
