Anybody actually ride in these? Like schooling 4 or 5 times a week?
I know a teenager who pretty much only rides in the Dublin ones, but I’ve never met anyone else who has ridden seriously in them, never mind rides seriously 4 to 5 times a week.
I’ve seen people hop on for a quick hack, but I’d never consider a serious ride in my Dubarrys. They are bulky and I think they’d be rather uncomfortable/distracting while working hard. That said, my Dubarrys are my favorite purchase of all time. I’ll almost certainly buy a second pair in the black/brown to wear when I want to look a smidge dressier. The ones I have now have been put through the wringer and look like it.
I’ve only hacked in mine when I’ve been too cold to change my boots. They are very bulky and they are soft, so can bunch. I also think it looks sloppy. I know people who do ride in them a lot (mostly teens but I’ve seen a few pros, too), but I wouldn’t.
I have Dublins, I have ridden in them. They just don’t go high enough, and don’t stick to the leg enough. They are too bulky and they don’t exactly stay up as they fall down a little naturally.
I prefer a nice calf fitting half chap so I can feel everything. I wouldn’t ride in my Dublins to actually work my horse. Its not comfortable enough and they are just too big and busy.

Me!
I practically live in mine.
And yes, I do ride in them, schooling several days a week. Partly I am too lazy to haul boots on and off, partly, I just find them very comfy. True, they do not come up as high as a tall boot, or have the grippiness of a half chap. And they can slouch if I do not tie the tops up tight enough. That said, for comfort and convenience, they are what I ride to school in pretty much ever since I bought them!
I wear Dublin Zenith boots routinely for riding, as they are a bit oversized and easier for me to get on than normal tall boots.
Thanks for the opinions. I’ll give them a try since there are so many fans!
I have Dublin Pinnacle boots and while I love them, and have hopped on to hack in them, I can’t imagine riding seriously in them. I wear spurs and there is no spur rest and the heel portion of the boot is soft and would allow them to rub, they don’t come up high enough on my leg and as others have said, they are bulky.
I have the Dublin Pinnacle boots as well. They are great for hacking, but as mentioned above, there is no spur rest, and they’re a bit bulky. So for serious riding I change my boots.
Even with those faults, I love these boots. I work as a groom once a week, and they’re definitely waterproof and still look great after lots of abuse. They’re super comfortable for those days when I’m on my feet a lot.
I’ve hacked in my Dubbary’s, but they’re a bit loose to actually ride ride in. As a jumper rider (former dressage), my stirrups are much shorter than you dressage riders, but I can’t imagine sitting the trot in a dressage saddle with them!
However, for barn work/around the barn, and even hacking they’re lovely. They are my favorites to wear/work in! Certainly worth the investment
Ok, then…the dublins in chocolate look pretty nifty!
I threw my Dublin Pinnacles in the closet after I figured out I couldn’t ride in them after one ride. Pulled them out this week for Rolex hoping to get some use out of them and literally wrung my socks out when we got to the car Saturday. And no, I was not walking through the water complex, this was just from the wet grass. Pieces of trash that are now going exactly where they belong.
I sometimes ride in my Dublin River boots. They’re super comfortable.
I typically ride in my old Ariat Maestros, my Petries or my half chaps.
The only thing that worries me is that the foot is bulkier than regular riding boots and I can’t fish the stirrup as easily if I happen to lose it.
I have the Dubarry Clares, and I ride in them comfortably and effectively. Strong recommend!
I don’t ride in mine any more ( see my enthusiastic post above).
I am now strictly in my half chaps/paddock boots when riding-- much better feel of my horse with my leg. I noticed a huge difference in the responsiveness of my horse, and what I could feel with my leg. I have an ultra sensitive OTTB, and being able to have that feel made such a difference in the ride.
I still think they are comfy useful boot-- but they now live in my tack trunk for muddy days to hike in and out of the pasture if needed.
