I suspect there is something to
that @SMF11 .
My stray/rescue GSD decided
right away she wanted a job on the farm- to help out.
From watching me when I brought in the horses she taught herself to go out and herd the horses to their appropriate feeding spots in the shelter.
If one horse was sneaky and in the wrong stall, Heidi dog barked and fussed til they moved to the correct stall . She was so proud of herself but she really wanted
to work and help out.
They say some dogs need a job
and I agree, especially for busy brains.
Thanks to those that suggested Tiger may have just had an accident and needed time to adjust to the large crate. Crate is still pee pee free! He is also just spending nights inside. During the day he is at the barn with my pack. And in the evening he is allowed to be free in the living room supervised with my friends cat and his dog. He mainly flops down upside down on the sofa or plays with his big stuffed toys. He cracks me up he plays catch with himself. Tossing them above his head and catching them over and over.
My dogs are really starting to enjoy him too. This is from this morning. After they played like nuts they decided to huddle together to nap.
Forgot to addā¦ a tired dog is a really happy calm dog. And it is so amazing what a young dog can learn from older well adjusted dogs through osmosis. lol.
He is quite the escape artist, though. This morning, when I was pushing the 2 ton wheelbarrow full of manure through the back gate to go across the pasture to dump into the manure pileā¦ He shot past me. I almost had a heart attack. One of my horses was out there. my horse completely ignored him, and the dog just made a beeline for the manure pile to have a snack. I ran back to the barn feed room and grabbed a can of cat food and called him. he came right to meā¦ I didnāt yell I just praised. One day at a time.
Jackpot
Just wondering if youāve thought
about doing an Embark dna test
on this fine. dog?
He certainly seems like a nice
sensible mix.
Iād be so curious to know his
background and breeds.
I have ! And I will. Did the embark test on two of my dogs previously.
Edited to add just ordered the test for breed and health status. Itās how I also figured out my female dog has one copy of the gene that they call white footed dog ? Something like that. Sensitive to ivermectin.
This is our sweetheart Clyde. According to Embark he is 50% Boxer, 12.5% GSD, and then a miscellaneous bunch of other breeds. He is very Boxer-y, and the best boy.
Clyde is gorgeous. ! Love him. What a beautiful boy!
Oh Great.
Maybe we can have a guessing game til the results are in???
Whatās your guess(es)??
Thanks! I put him in here because Iāll bet Tigerboy has some Boxer, with that brindling. There are lots of breeds with brindling, but he has a Clyde-y look to him. Clyde is very bouncy!
Well itās really really hard to find a southern dog that doesnāt have bully in it. But Iām thinking some kind of shepherd or hound. And maybe a bit of boxer. Thatās the funny thing right ?
He rooos like a hound. We have curr dogs here that do that. Heās goofy like a boxer. But for some reason I get shepherd vibes. Itās such a knee jerk reaction to think itās a mix of two ā¦ when itās probably a soup of 4-8 breeds!
Some pics I see shepherd too
around his face/muzzle.
Iāll bet 4-6 breeds.
Body-wise what do you see?
I had a pit bull that was a very well put together very classic example of a pit bull or Am Staff so not likely any hound mixed in. He Woo-Wooād when he was happy or as a greeting anytime we went anywhere.
That is a tossup. Whatever combines a barrel chest and a tiny wasp waist. Also his tail is long but wants to curl over his back slightly.
I love a Blackmouth Cur.
Thereās hound in there with that yowl, thatās for sure. Iām going boxer/hound mix. Heās adorable. Youāve done a wonderful thing rescuing him from certain death.
Haha. Being an escape artist might be part of what landed him alone and lost in the first place! Maybe he needs a tracking device on his collar!
Love the sweater!!!
