Dumped Dog Please Reassure Me We Are Doing The Right Thing. EMBARK RESULTS ARE BACK!

You are definitely doing the right thing. He has food, water, warmth and company, so much better than being outdoors, cold and hungry.

Being crate trained at a young age is good.

Well done you, and friends!

He arrived around 4:15 for his exercise. Friend said his crate was pristine. He tolerated it well. Friends female dog is again being okay with him but she is quite over the sniffing and rambunctiousness and placing his head over her top line. She offers a short deep Nope! Growl and he scampers away. He is a jolly goofy dog. Heā€™s either running like the wind or doing this. lol

Have his ears been cropped? They look like it in the OP photo.

No thankfully. Theyā€™re just either partially pricked or laid back if heā€™s sheepish.

Oh, thatā€™s good. :slightly_smiling_face:

I agree. Hate the small triangle fighting dog crop you see in bullies. He seems like a cross to me. His snout is elongated and his tail is curled a bit over his back. Definitely bully predominant but youā€™re hard pressed to find any sort of stray or dog in the pound around here that isnā€™t a bully breed.

Heā€™s cute. My Great Dane was very into being upside down.

An acquaintance of my (then) husband came over, didnā€™t get out of his truck but husband was at the drivers side window chatting with him.

Great Dane went upside down in front of the truck, head pointed towards the truck, and stared at the guy through the windshield. After a few glances the guy said ā€œwhy is your dog doing that, laying on his back and staring at me?ā€ He seemed quite disconcerted. Canā€™t blame him really, it was a weird thing for a dog to do.
The only answer for it was ā€œyour guess is as good as mine.ā€

He was such a goofy dog. After decades of him being gone I still miss him.

His crate. Heā€™d rather be free but heā€™s happier inside than in the kennel. Doing our best.

He goes right to sleep

He looks anything but distressed. Donā€™t worry. Heā€™ll be fine. Itā€™ll just take some time for everything to come together. In the meantime heā€™s certainly not suffering.

Youā€™re a good egg. Please tell your friend we think heā€™s a good egg too. :+1:

I will!!! Thank you so much !

Coloring, white markings and goofy - do you think thereā€™s some boxer in there somewhere? He looks like such a sweet thing snoozing away.

Very cute! I too am used to ā€œfree rangingā€ dogs in the house, but most everyone I know crates their dogs and finds the dogs really take to them. Your guy looks perfectly happy where he is. Lucky dog

His face in the sleeping picture reminds me a ton of a much-loved Catahoula mix a friend used to have. Might be another possibility.

Hope the vet appointment goes well-it will be here before you know it.

Maybe! The brindle and the goofiness reminded me of a boxer.
PS. My favorite dog of all time was a Catshoula I had 20 years ago. A blue striped Merle. With amber eyes. He was amazing.
Going to take it one day at a time and believe we will work everything out.

My dear departed father was a small animal veterinarian. He took in every animal he found dumped or someone tied to his practice gate. Cardboard boxes full of kittens, dogs tied to his perimeter fence. All the animals I dragged home as a child. I remember he saved a crow with a broken leg. He amputated the leg and set it free. That one legged crow would visit the yard of his hospital regularly. You do your best. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and advice. Sincerely appreciate it

Just want to chime in and to agree with everyoneā€™s comments. What a handsome dog! Thank you so much for the kindness shown to him. And yes, Iā€™m sure he will be even better when the ā€œCrown Jewelsā€ are permanently off display.

You saved a thin, tick infested, intact dog that clearly was not thriving out in the wilderness. Getting to sleep in a safe indoor crated space and then get the wilds out at the barn is not only a better life than he had but honestly a better life than a lot of dogs. He got one heck of a life upgrade.

Canā€™t thank you all enough for your encouragement and your kind sage words. It has buoyed my spirits. Appreciate every comment beyond measure.

He looks like an Anatolian mix to me, actually.

Heā€™s really tiny Mosey. Like a medium size but weighs maybe 30 pounds. Should weigh about 45 lbs. or more if he grows. I think I could put my little hands around his waist.

Ahhhh, he looked bigger in the pictures!

Iā€™d go with Boxer mix then like others said, mine loved being upside down and an absolute clown.
