Dutch harness horse drama. Update major mare/ foal neglect Nov 2023 post 1782 Update Kate Shearer responds post 1930 Nov 25/23

Regarding peanut rollers: I bought a halter-bred APHA weanling for almost nothing (QH on both sides) because she only had a belly spot (she’s 24 on January 3). Both parents were tall so I assumed she would be at least 15.2hh for the hunters or eventing. Unfortunately she’s 14.3hh .

I backed her and did all her training myself from day one. She naturally had a normal English-horse headset and big gaits with good over track. So QHs can easily compete in non-Western sports—although those starting as a blank slate are probably easier to work with.

That makes sense–I did not realize people would risk a straw and try to cut off a part-I imagine you can end up with a shattered un-usable mess in your hands?

I think you could ruin the whole thing. Hopefully the facility doing this knows the best way to handle things.

K did have a rant about exploding straws.

Much as it pains me to admit - sometimes straws will explode and it’s not the fault of the clinic doing the work. I’m not entirely certain on the specifics but occasionally you will hear about a stallion with a specific year’s collection that has multiple people reporting that the straws explode upon *thawing. It’s not super common but based on the fact that I’ve seen it come up like this three or four times over the years, I think it’s definitely a thing. I’m guessing something to do with the procedure of how it was frozen in the first place. This isn’t just an ICSI straw thing, or approaching normal straws for ICSI purposes.

“Unthawing?” Does that refer to refreezing a thawed sample? I’m not familiar with the term.

:joy: The reason you’re not familiar with the term is that it was a creation of my brain after being on my feet for 19 hours. Thank you for catching! I edited the original to avoid confusion, haha.

 And I thought it was some specific term! Maybe something that only applied if the sample had been previously frozen or whatever. :upside_down_face:

Things stored in Liq N2 can and will explode if not sealed properly… A little liq N2 rapidly going to gas and all…

This is pretty much of a tangent, but I saw a woman on an Arabian out on the trail. She was just standing there with her hands about level with the top of her head, and nearly as far apart as they could be. She kept alternating hands, pulling back first one and then the other. These guys’ hands remind me of hers.

What’s the purpose of this and where does it come from?

I have no idea. People do some weird stuff.

I thought there was a comment above about a RULE (autocorrect originally typed that as “time” lol) requiring that both hands must be visible? If that’s the case and if one is a member of the human race, where you are likely to fall into the trap of “if some is good MORE must be better!”. And so a ridiculous affection was born

There was nobody to see it, other than me, my friend, and maybe a bear. I was afraid to ask!

I’ve seen western riders do that to get their horses head down and behind the vertical. Even on trail rides I’ve see them doing that, and also the dreaded ‘back em up a mile’ crap.

That’ll for sure engage that curb and encourage a “headset.”

Maybe she thought it made her look cool. Maybe it gave her a greater feeling of control.

Just popped in to add that I used to show a bit on the Arab circuit. The last show I went to (early 80’s), I watched the western pleasure horses warming up. They were wearing a running martingale made to be so short that their noses were literally between their front legs. When they take it off you get the frame in the pictures posted above.

So have you found a new place yet in Aiken SC to try and set up shop??? Praying all of the Savvy Horse People have been updated. Guess you will be still trying to pass the Bar then in SC??? Guess you have to finish school first. Hope those poor GSP’S eventually find a better home

She thrives on pretending to be a lawyer among other things. She has screwed handlers in the dog show world as well. And she’s looking to move to Aiken SC!! Spread the word so the reputable Horse people know the truth.

I didn’t see this on her FB page, but it totally fits the pattern of KS basically getting run out of every town after a year and bouncing around the South.

Obviously she’s never going to write any bar exams anywhere.
