Early Start to the fall CotH hunt!
And spouses who come have a great time. Mr. Smart Alex and Mr. Hinderella really enjoyed sleeping on HR’s front porch ;)
You make it sound like they didn’t have actual rooms to stay in. It should be clarified that they enjoyed napping in the sun on the porch while their womenfolk were off doing foolish things with horses.

OMG, you’re right, Cammie…I should have said NAPPING!! And cooking, and building stuff…all sorts of good menfolk activities at HR

They were busy guys. Heck, Mr. SA even found himself a lunch date when I abandoned him for too long!

I love the way Hunter’s Rest made us all feel welcome and at home. The first thing she did was turn over the keys to her tractor  And I thought it was funny the time Mr. SA came “home” to find the chickens had gotten into the mudroom and trashed the place. He claimed some day he was going to write a book about our hunting excursion. He was shaking his head and telling stories for months.

Oh, and Cammie… he misses you!

Ha! Tell Mr. SA I miss him terribly as well.

We are having a Fox Hunting Pony Club camp at Red Rock Hounds on July 30-August 3rd. On the 3rd we will have a mock hunt. We are in Reno, Nevada if anyone is around and would like to stop in (or has a kid that wants to try it out)! It will be way more relaxed than our normal hunting, and it would be a great intro!

Belmont, you know, Red Rock ‘could’ strive to match Hunter’s Rest with a west coast alternative.

There’s the Leisure Field for those who might want to start gently. And for first flight types, the thrill of galloping along ridge tops and negotiating thousand foot ridges. And the prospect of admiring feral horses while hunting. And that fun saloon up the road. And of course the convenience of the clubhouse. And livery horses available.

Just sayin.’

Beverly, I’m guessing you’ve hunted with us before? (:

Road Trip!!

Hunting Princesses go to Nevada!! Sounds like fun to me!!
woooohooooo!!

Indeed. In Nevada, Wyoming, Arizona and Montana. And maybe other states that I might not be able to recall at this moment.

Oooh, ooh…a west coast trip? I don’t know if it’s in the budget for this year, but perhaps I can plan for next year. But I’ve seen some of the pics from Red Rock, and I’ve always had the idea that the hunt is fast and challenging. Is there room for a hunting newbie in the leisure field, Belmont?
Maybe an east coaster would like to make a trip with me next year, or a west coaster join me there?

Ah, jeez. I just gotta make this happen!!

Whicker, you still got room for me to bunk at your place?

Just put in my vacation request so I can hold the dates.

Road Trip! Road Trip! (I hate flying and can you imagine the cost of all of the "stuff"we’d have to check in?)

Hmmm…I’ve been re-reading Wilfred LeBlanc’s posts about his experiences hunting with Red Rock hounds. While he describes wonderful and exciting days, it sounds as though it would be well beyond my hunting abilities. And the description is of a territory that would not seem to lend itself to car following, unless perhaps on a 4-wheeler!

Well, we’ll see how much I improve in a year’s time

And manydogs, the trick is to mail your stuff on ahead to yourself, to your hosts or to the local postmaster to hold for you.

Wilfred was not hunting in the leisure field.

Well, with Beverley’s more detailed information (thank you!) I can see that I should be able to acquit myself with the leisure field. Tally-slo!

Hinderella,

You make me smile!!

You’ve got the hunting bug and certainly the right spirit!! Being a part of the hunt, even in the “leisure field” is what’s important.

Enjoying life and all it’s possibilities within your abilities/comfort zone.

Thanks, Jawa. I’m afraid I can’t take credit for Tally-slo however, it was on the blog for which Beverley provided a link. I may need to make it my motto!

OK ladies, tell me I am not crazy but I just brought this up with DH and he said if it will make you happy we’ll go!!!

So now I will be having tons of questions to ask because I know nothing:eek: In fact, I don’t know which questions to ask. So post or pm me so I don’t offend anyone. (I can deal with making a fool of myself, that’s pretty much par for the course.:D)

Note to self: be sure to ride at least 4 days a week. And work on 2point.

Nice job crew. Another one lured into the fracas.
Re: tally slow, not being part of the thrusters’ group, etc. – N.B. – Riders in the galloping group usually see NOTHING other than the bobbing butt of the rider in front of them. They do not see the landscape, they do not see the hounds, they do not see the fox, they do not see the big picture.
They’re worried about their horse running off, the big jump that’s coming up, not falling, not passing the master, not falling in a groundhog hole full-tilt.
The third field? We see it all, and then some.
Plus, we have better cookies in back.
I’ll begin making for-real plans so please email me directly at home as we get more specific.
I’ve confirmed the bluegrass group (five pieces plus my NY friend on the mandolin plus another rhythm guitar!) so we’re close to nailing down the Sept. 15 weekend for our dates.
Carry on.

How do you think the future Mr. MajesticThundor would feel if we honeymooned at HR instead of the beach? We’re scheduled to be away in North Carolina that weekend! I will have to bring him out once though, he would love it! He took to the bassett pack like a fish to water!

I can’t say enough great things about HR: She is lovely, welcoming, and keeps great company! I came home from Spring hunt in a blissful, exhausted state.
