East Bay (CA) Boarding/Training Options

It sounds like board won’t be a shock. Wherever you are in Pleasanton (I think I know the hospital) is not too far from the outlet mall. Your best options for board are going to be Pleasanton/ San Ramon and Livermore, though Castro Valley is certainly a good option. I would look into the people mentioned already and start looking there and see how it feels.

You’ll get lots of ideas about farriers once you chose a place. (I would keep the horse barefoot unless he has feet issues! My FEI horses are barefoot.)

I’d be calling now.

If you’re in the Pleasanton area, I would check out Nadine Pestana at Iron Horse Equestrian in Danville. She has some really nice FEI schoolmasters in the barn that would be partial-lease options, and does really well with non purpose-bred horses. She took a kid to NAJYRC and eventually I1 on an Arabian, and I’ve seen her get really correct FEI work on other unconventional types like TBs, appendix, etc. There’s also a lady in her barn that gives beginner lessons on her super bombproof quarter horse, so that might be an option for your husband. PM me if you’d like an intro or more information

Thanks for the info! I do have Iron Horse on my list but didn’t see a dressage trainer listed on their site so great to know. I’ll PM you.

Re people recommending Greenville, is there any access to jumps on the property? Although I’m really a dressage rider I do enjoy and believe in doing some cross training. I also want to make sure my horse has a
solid general foundation, like hacking out quietly and being capable of getting around a small course without his head exploding. I just think it’s good for their brain and gives a non-fancy horse a better chance of a soft landing if anything were to ever happen to me and my husband.

There are no jumps at Greenville - just some caveletti for dressage work. There is a Hunter Jumper barn across the street though. As noted above farriers are linked to certain barn- at Greenville most work is done by 2 different farriers.
