EasyCare Cloud Boots vs. Soft-Ride Boots for Laminitis

Four-day update on EasyCare Cloud boots: Got a call from the barn this a.m. saying horse is not doing well…seemed to be in quite a lot more pain. Fearing the worst, called the vet who spent a few minutes checking and declared the problem to be the boots. We took them off, and the horse’s countenance changed completely. The horse that wouldn’t let me even touch him immediately relaxed and began to eat hay whereas before he was pacing in circles. The boots were rubbing all the way around, and he was sweating in them…a lot. The fit still seems perfect. The company does have a 30-day warranty, so it looks like they will be going back. While I can’t say anyone should avoid ordering the boot, it sure doesn’t look like it worked for us after all.

Thank you for your last post OP. I have always used soft rides which have never rubbed, 24/7. But was thinking of trying the others. You just saved me some money.

Call soft-ride, the # is on the website. If no one answers, leave message and they will get back to you. They can fedex overnight. I love those boots.

Thanks for the update. Sorry your guy wasn’t going good but sounds like he’s better now with the Soft Rides. I’ve thought of trying something cheaper for my mare but I hear stories like yours and I keep going back to the Soft Rides (which she’s wearing now). Expensive but worth every penney.

Same thing that happened with my guy. Now I’m going back to see if I’m still within the 30-day warranty for the EasyCare Clouds! Soft Rides have been a godsend. Just got the dual-density inserts designed specifically for laminitis, will switch them in today. But he’s been pretty comfy just in the regular orthotic inserts that come with the boots.

I have been buying Soft Ride boots for about 3 years for the same OTTB horse who has horrible sensitive feet. I have bought probably about 7 or 8 pairs. Sometimes he wears them for just a few days when his shoe comes off until the farrier can come or sometimes he has to wear them for weeks at a time when his hoof walls can’t handle shoes. After about 2 weeks he will rip the back off them. They make him very comfortable, but they are heavy and bulky. Also the sides allow dirt to get in there and then will form a lump of dirt between the pad and his hoof which hurts him. Must clean out daily or more often. The EasyCloud boots are not open on the sides and fit better than the SoftRides. They are also much lighter and less clunky. However his foot stays wetter as it is more enclosed if he walks through water or rain. The pad also will squish flat in the front half pretty quickly which offers no cushion. So the BEST OPTION is this and it’s awesome… Take out the Soft-Ride Gel pads and put them inside of the Easy Cloud boots. Then you pretty much have the perfect boot. It has the very comfortable Softride gel pad and the less clunky Easycare Cloud boots which are easier for them to run in. Although keep a close eye out on the moisture inside and dry the boots if they get wet as much as you can.
