EHV1 Outbreak in Ontario/Quebec/ All over

According to the owner, the horse had shipped commercially 30 days ago and been on New Bolton property the whole time.

Yes the barn is in QT, but knowing that this barn sold a horse to the barn in Qc and shipped it and the very next day had their first case but did not bother to warn the barn in Qc
which now has several cases and lost 2 horses I believe
So excuse me for doubting of the ethics of some people.
I am not expecting AST to cancel the series but at least to indicate that there will be protections in place for the other riders if this barn shows up ie separate stalls, etc. Cancelling would be unfair to the other riders!
I heard that they have to be free of any positive cases for 3 weeks before being allowed to leave the property or risk heavy fines.
86 horses on the property. Only about 50 stalls so they double up stalls ie some during the day, some at night. I can imagine the stress on the horses when we had very low temperatures
and some horses are in Fl, so where will they go when they come back?

Three horses lost, and yes the barn in Qc could have been warned but wasn’t.

Do you know that for a fact? Because what I’ve told is that vets and OMAFRA have confirmed the cases aren’t linked. So unless you know this beyond the shadow of a doubt, might be a good idea not to spread rumours that can really damage a barn’s reputation. Same with the rumours that the Ontario barn owner was moving her horses around to other farms, when in fact she simply quarantined all her horses returning from Florida at a separate facility because that’s the responsible thing to do.

It’s on their go fund me page.

Let’s be clear
my comment did not link the farms and that was deliberate. My post referred specifically to the warning, and that is in the reference. Go check yourself.

At this point in time, you are correct. One of the horses that died belonged to a friend of mine. The attending vet believes the horse that shipped in from TO was the source of the virus. The barn could and should have been warned, but they weren’t. Now they are dealing with the outbreak. I believe this is absolute negligence on the originating barn.

I am so sorry for your friend @Seagram. This is just so heartbreaking, I can’t imagine what everyone is going through at that facility. Many of these horses are very important family members to their humans.

Thinking that it could have been prevented just kills me.

Thanks Dee-Vee. That what gets me as well. If they had been given a heads up, maybe some of the heart break could have been prevented. I have many friends at the barn in QC, and I just can’t fathom what they are going through. It’s so unreal.

I wonder if there is any legal recourse for deliberately withholding the information? Obviously it won’t bring the horses back but if there was an opportunity to get some financial compensation I would hope that the offending barn would be punished to the full extent. They’ve affected the entire horse industry in ON and QC and horses have died because of their willful neglect.

It is horrible how it has affected our area. While the Ottawa Horse community supports VH, we are all walking on egg shells. Kudos to VH for their transparency. The video on their FB page is worth watching.

Yesterday, I went to Greenhawk
but before going, I showered and put on clothes and footwear that had never been to the barn.

Yes, we take it seriously. :).

I just watched their video. Very informative. I think people appreciate this as shown on the Go Fund Me which, last time I looked, had reached over $82K!

I’m a little surprised that they are allowing any horses from Europe into the UK at all right now.

Sending good thoughts to you folks in Canada. Hang in there.

Apparently there have also been cases at the Laurel Racetrack (MD). I assume that they are unrelated and I’m not even sure if they are neuro or respiratory, just got an alert this morning.
