ST CROIX COUNTY WISCONSIN -PENDING—
APRIL 4
4-4-2014 EHV 1 update
Around March 18, 2014 Veterinarians first became suspicious of an EHV1 outbreak. As we network together colleagues talked of suspicious cases that they had treated in the previous weeks. These cases were re examined in light of the heightened suspicions. Case 6 was a pony which was euthanized before March 18 and has now been found to be negative for EHV1 .
There is another farm in Wisconsin (St Croix County) that had a suspicious case in February and now has another suspicious case, current tests are pending.
The following is from Wisconsin Department of Agriculture website

"Equine Herpesvirus-1 Update as of 04/04/2014
Reports of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) continue to be reported by horse owners and veterinarians in parts of western WI and eastern MN.
Another possible case was reported today in St. Croix County and tests are pending. Meanwhile, post-mortem test results from a horse that was euthanized in Burnett County are negative for EHV-1. This horse was one of two that were suspected of EHV-1. The other horse in Polk County was confirmed positive, but is recovering. "

Everything I saw said the horse was from Northern Virginia and it had EHM. Did one of the horses from the above barn come from Northern Virginia? It would be really nice if the state vets would at least release the discipline of the horse.

I knew nothing other than The Paulick Report article, passed along from a FB page. Wondered also why the horse would have picked it up at Aqueduct, but saw it had had a break after Jacobson claimed it. Then when hearing about the VA horse, was wondering myself if it had a layover at one of the farms down there. Makes sense. Plus Jacobson had a horse run Saturday anyway - must have been stabled elsewhere.
Here’s another article on DRF. They’re saying the quarantine only precautionary, and hope to know more later in the week. Rudy Rodriguez also had horses in that barn. http://www.drf.com/news/aqueduct-quarantine-termed-precautionary
just to update. . . . here in the Midwest we now have cases or suspected cases in WI, ND, and MN. Latest cases awaiting test results, so around 13 or so.
Local cases here now after traveling to a barrel racing show in Lincoln Nebraska. Kansas State is recommending 30 days after your regular vaccines that include EVH-1 and EVH-4, give a booster of Pnemuabort-K or Prodigy (appears to be the same thing, different manufacturers). We did that as we have 3 shows this summer/fall (we event :D)
Three cases of EHV-1 reported in Wisconsin (Dane County). All at the same boarding facility. Facility name has not been released.

There was an asymptomatic EHV horse brought to the Canadian Interprovincial equestrian championships in Blainville at the beginning of October. Another one got infected over there and is asymptomatic as well.
Technically, all of the horses present during that week are supposed to be still in quarantine but I’m quite sure a lot of them haven’t followed the protocol…I know of a girl who was objecting to the quarantine for some odd reason…
