Embarrassing issue in the saddle

I think it really depends where the moisture is coming from.

Is it dripping back sweat? Is it crotch sweat? Is it actual leakage, either pee or body fluids? You don’t need to tell us  but the solutions would be different for each.

Let us know how the ride goes with your “modifications”! Hoping they help.

Pantyliner got all scrunched up, not sure if the mark on my saddle was from tonight as it was still sort of there from my last ride on Sunday. I think it’s crotch sweat, which might contribute to why the pantyliner cant stay put. Hoping the expensive underwear will be the solution!

Okay, so this is pretty embarassing but I’ve been taking a lot of liquid magnesium these days and it makes one, um, very “loose” in the bowels. A couple of hunts ago I felt, well, too MOIST back there and in my trailer after checked my breeches and nothing so thought it was okay. Got home and I had, um, soiled my spanx like underwear. But the reason I am posting this most humiliating thing is that those dang underwear did not let anything leak through. I can’t see the brand or anything but now wear them every time ( and have backed off the magnesium  ) just saying, if you can find some good shaper undies, these are really solid and nothing like pantyhose, more like a bathing suit to hold everything in and not have panty lines, you might try that. Also, be glad that you apparently have really good lube going on down there that I frankly envy. Omg did I just really post this. Lord help me.

Thank you for posting, all of you. It is an issue for women, sometimes just back sweat, sometimes more. As a woman close to 50, having had two kids, I have been going through hell with a certain problem. I have a grapefruit sized fibroid that causes issues, especially if I cough or sneeze or jump anything bigger than 2 feet!!! Surgery has been prescribed, but there is no way I can take 8 weeks off to recuperate. Getting fitter and losing a bit of weight has helped, (I am not large to begin with, but I think losing some of the fat around my stomach has certainly helped). But it has been extremely embarrassing at times, especially with my super understanding husband, who tries his best to be supportive, it can be mortifying when you think of yourself as a tough old broad, and then you realize you’ve just peed your pants because you sneezed. I am going to try some of these underwear suggestions, sometimes the pantyliners just don’t cut it. But I wish women could talk about this more, it is so common, so embarrassing, and something that we should be able to deal with and talk about instead of pretending it’s not an issue. And I can’t believe I just posted this either. But if it helps any other woman…

SEAGRAM I had a huge endometroma ( endometial issue outside the uterus) which I referd to as my phantom baby, and fibroids, All went away when I entered menopause, I sometimes had burst leakage during half halts and sometimes the endometroma would sit down on the nerves and cause discomfort. Nothing was worth doing surgery when I knew it would eventually resolve itself.

That was part of my issue as well, I was told it would possibly resolve when i entered menopause. I could not justify putting my family through months of doing all of my farm work (they have no interest in the horses and all the other animals, that’s all on me). It goes up and down, how uncomfortable it can be, sometimes I feel like I have a continuous UTI, and then not so bad. It’s up and down. I just wish I had known when the symptoms started, what the hell was going on. I had no clue, no information, and my older male doctor was no help at all. Just continued tests for UTIs, until I finally went to a younger doctor who sent me to a woman who had a clue! At least with a diagnosis, I can deal with it!
Thank god I live in Canada, so this didn’t cost me an arm and a leg and a uterus!

Synthetic saddles are nice for this reason. I had a young lady exercising one of my horses in the summer. She didn’t just sweat, she poured fluid. Not unusual to have a soaked saddle when she got off. Yes it’s hot in Florida.

I sweat a lot, but not that much, which is probably why I overheat instead!

Synthetic is nice because you hose it off and are good to go.

Interesting information!

Part of summer is that my saddle gets a very dark stain through the middle, just where I’m in contact with it. This very dark portion has a gradual blend with the rest of the saddle, so hopefully the saddle just looks weathered (which it is anyway). As soon as the weather is cooler the dark area begins to recede/fade, and eventually evens out over the winter. Then the first very warm day, it’s back for the duration.

I haven’t noticed anything with my breeches other than that everyone who is riding in hot weather is sweaty on parts of their body. It’s not more noticeable in one place than another.

It’s one of those things that I don’t think other people notice much, simply because those saddle stains are not unusual in this hot part of the country. I’ve seen a lot of saddles with darker permanent stains right where the rider’s crotch goes. It just means that that rider actually gets out there and rides.

NOT ALONE

Since I ride in only my saddle, I am meh about it, tho there are times I get off my pony and leave my hand on my saddle of anyone is around… I don’t care as much on a taller horse

I got some of the Thinx panties. They are ok. Definitely work. Just not totally comfy for me.

I would just search amazon for period panties. They have tons of selection that is much less expensive than thinx. Most of them are just cotton with a non-permeable layer. I like them better than thinx, which have leaked on me before.

So I’ve thought about this before and have chatted with barn friends about it. I don’t think it’s necessarily leakage or even direct sweat buildup. I’m of the mind that the space between your crotch and saddle gets a bit steamy (for lack of a better word) and creates condensation and trapped moisture which then can cause a wetter area on the saddle and potentially stain it or leave a temporary patch. I think things like moisture wicking undies will help, but it might just be one of those things for some people due to it being a trapped area where moisture can hang out.

The fact that the OP’s breeches stay dry seems to me to make this the most likely explanation.

That makes sense to me, because my breeches are not wet when this happens.

You’re definitely not alone! Lots of good suggestions above.

One other idea, if the visible stain really bothers you, is to use a seat saver. You could go a bit retro with the lambskin style ones or Thinline and Acavallo (I think) male gel type ones that are pretty discreet!

It is sweat. No matter what I do, or don’t do, I have the issue as you.

Update (sorry for the long delay)

I got the Thinx panties and hate them. The leg holes are awful and tight. Maybe if I got a bigger size they would be okay, but in the end I decided to just deal with it and up my tack care routine shrug

You might be using the cornstarch, but please don’t put the talc based baby powder down there. It is no longer even recommended for babies. J&J to stop making it because of cancer claims : https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/19/b…s-stopped.html

Google it but I heard for years that baby powder causes cancer. I then finally heard on the news about the court case and the women who sued were using it down there which is not where it was actually designed for.

Oops I see this has already been mentioned.

Also, there is nothing but thin leather, the seat webbing and a bit of foam padding between the horse’s back and the saddle seat at the place you’re seeing the damp spot.

In hot weather it could easily be moisture rising up from the horse’s back and condensing on the seat, unable to evaporate because it’s trapped there by your seat in the saddle.
