Emily Gilruth updates (the rider seriously injured at Badminton 2017)

Go Emily!

Is there a time when they will do an assessment of how far she’s come as of that date, and give more of a prognosis? Or is that not possible with her type of injury?

Thanks Doodlebug1. Although not many people are responding, this thread has over 2,500 views since it was started about 5 days ago. People are following your updates about Emily.

I’m not sure. I’m literally copying and pasting these from Polly Stockton Facebook. She is a 4* rider, based near (and good friends with) Emily. I know Polly but I don’t know Emily directly.

Thank you for keeping us posted! There are a lot of us following and sending our thoughts and prayers for her full recovery.

Weeks, months. Often residual symptoms become only apparent to those close to the person and the person themselves. I would think some long lasting residual issues would not be uncommon. Just how much is hard to say.

Not directly from the family, but good news none the less: http://www.britisheventing.com/asp-net/news/item.aspx?id=6878

It is good to know that Emily is showing improvement, I pray she makes a full recovery.

Thank you for the updates. Keep the good news coming. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery

From Polly:

Sorry all for the absence of news as sure lots of you are desperate to hear how the last few days have gone for Em. so here is Shirley’s update 15th may

‘Emily continues to improve, she now has no tubes attached. She is moving into the next phase where the hospital concentrate on physio, occupational therapy, helping her to regain her recollections. She may be moved from Bristol to Stoke-on-Trent at some stage, which would be so much easier for all the family.’

It was incredible at Chatsworth the amount of people wishing Em the speediest recovery she’s one popular Girl. Come on Em

ooops ![](uys, sorry! Yesterday’s post from Polly re Emily below:

Exciting news

‘Today, Emily has been moved to a neurological ward in Stoke on Trent. It is here that she will have assessments to determine how her future treatment needs to be planned. She is tired, but very happy to be moving closer to home.’

Happy days this is such great news. brilliant for all the family so they can see her a lot easier. She’s still not ready for any visitors yet as even the family are having to hold back so not to exhaust her. For anyone sending cards probably best to send to Topwood , threapwood, malpas Cheshire Sy14 7by

Hoping for smooth continuous progress.

17th May day 11
Update from Stoke hospital on Em

''Emily has now moved to The Royal Stoke on Trent hospital where she has a nice room with a view.
Her mobility has improved and
although she is still muddled, conversations last longer but sometimes with curious twists and turns! She does have some double vision and the facial surgeon is assessing whether or not the fractures in her cheek bone and eye socket need attention.
Emily’s appetite is improving, and she is more engaged when she is talking, but she says she is bored and is adament that she is going home tomorrow - it’s proving difficult to manage her expectations!
