Equestrian Australia - Eventing Australia crumbling over Eventer Callum Buczak Rape Charge

I’m going to back up FitzE on the parenting issue. Parents are the scapegoats for everything  If we stay at the barn, we are helicopter parenting. If we leave them we are ignoring them. Everything is the fault of some other parent… because then we can pretend that we, and our children, are not at risk. Because we are not “bad.” Yes not everyone is a good parent. No one is a perfect parent.

As a community, if anything we have the largest responsibility to those kids who have below average parents. And half of parents, by definition, are below average.

As a community, what are our best practices solutions? SafeSport has a long list that is battle tested and has man-years of thought invested in it.

Latest on this case in the Daily Mail today. As it’s the Daily Mail, it’s basically word salad, but you can pick your way through it …

Lesson to the wise: don’t have break up sex!

(A comment in general, if events occurred as per the DM article, then having sex with someone you are planning to dump, then blocking them after is just… nasty)

Wow, interested in hearing what else comes out in this one. Hard to know what to believe at this point.

Daily Mail is probably not the best source of unbiased reporting. Seek information elsewhere. Get some more perspective

I know, right. Yet you see it, over and over, referenced as a source of < news >.

Interesting about the sponsorship email thing…I know a lot of people in the equestrian community do the same when they see riders doing something they dont agree with. Crazy to think you might end you up in court being questioned.

The DM started as a UK trash newspaper, mostly gossip, and poorly reported “scary headline” type articles, the type that my elderly parents in law treated as absolute gospel. Their (hugely successful) foray into free online has made them even worse, and the huge fanbase of “reality show” readers means they’re mainly clickbait now. Can’t believe they’ve branched out into the USA and Australia with exactly the same clickbait style. Their “sidebar of shame” is one of the most woman hating things out there.

Many of us have had “nothing but grief” from people in our lives, both personal and professionally, and we don’t go out and shoot someone. I have no dog in that fight, but for crying out loud, I can’t think of any situation where it’s okay to shoot someone at point blank range because they’re driving you nuts.
