Eventers Best Across, the Board Joint Suppliment

My first horse was a 19 year old Arabian gelding who had done English Pleasure (aka, TONS of front end action) in his younger days. When he got stiff our vet suggested Cosequin, but it was out of our budget. We put him on this instead and it had a noticeable affect. He was more comfortable and less creaky.

This stuff is made by a local company here in SoCal and it’s AWESOME. It is also available with H.A.

Springtime joint health formula is fantastic for many different issues in horses. It has msm chondroitan glucosamine and bosweilla. You would have to check to see if bosweilla is legal. We have used it on numerous horses from arthritis to navicular to suspensory, hocks. One old horse was at the point of possibly putting him down and the difference in him is remarkable in a short time. I have also found after they are on it at full dose I have been able to half the dose with same effects upping it in some just during certain times of year like winter for old horse. If you order the five pounds you get two free gifts from them one you can choose is the one pound dog joint health powder which is the same as for the horses so it gives you another pound at no cost! They are great to deal with and ship quickly. I also see results within first month. Definitely worth a try.

What do folks - anyone here - think of topical anti inflamatories, like Voltaran gel? How much gets into the system? I know how well it works, I have used it myself, but what about horses? Wasn’t it developed for horses?

Since you are using injectables, I would not supplement orally. If you see an issue, add in MSM, but I am in the why bother, especially for young horses camp.

We mostly just feed MSM, though I have been supplementing my horse with additional oral supplements this past year as a preventative (hopefully… though maybe it just makes me feel better). I really like Max Flex HR just based on price, palatability, and product information. Though it is hard to tell how much it is ‘working’ since I’m using it on an 8yo horse who has never shown any issues. I take Osteo Bi-Flex Double Strength and I do think it helps me, so my hope is that feeding something with similar ingredients helps my horse.

At a recent clinic, we had a presentation from a company called Joint Charge that is local to the area and has recently expanded to the equine market with their supplement. It is oral liquid, but apparently is better because you receive it dry and mix it with water yourself (good for 90 days after) and therefore the molecules are not breaking down as quickly as the liquid you buy off the shelf. Any of the COTHer scientists want to weigh in on this? I know a few people who have used it so far and say they see a difference with their horses. It is just much pricier than what I’m currently feeding.

Oops. Just realized I linked the wrong supplement in my first post. My bad!

THIS is what we put my Arab on. Worked like a charm!

If you can afford it, do injectables. Oral joint supplements are hit or miss. You know what you get with injections. I used Cosequin with no results.[/QUOTE]

I think that may be true of most but I thought MSM was proven.
