Eventing Canada - High Performance Summit

Perhaps they wouldn’t let JP ride 5 horses when there are less than 30 horses in the entire division? As it is, with 4 horses, she will be riding every 7th horse or so.

That means maybe 20 minutes between finishing XC with one horse and starting on course with the next.

Maybe its not JP could be the owners Decision.

The owner of Rotti also owns Bentley, maybe there is another motive at this point?

It certainly seems to me like she’s “saving” him. But without any 4* runs outside of his clear at the WEGs how can she be sure he’s her top horse?

Jess and A Little Romance are qualified for Rio after their 6th place finish at Galway.
Don’t forget that little mare.

I’m hoping the Leischeids still own her, and hoping its just a typo, but it said Don Good owned her at Galway.

I think she is saving his legs, he will probably come out at spring, maybe he’ll finally get to do all of Rolex next year, hope so! He’s such a cool horse. He has a special place in my heart though, I’m bias for sure.

Lisa Marie Fergusson had a great run at Galway and finished 7th with a clear SJ round. The first person in the order who hasn’t yet attempted a 4*. I hope things continue to go well with her, she’s had some incredibly bad luck over the years.

Do you have the breeding of the horse Lisa Marie rides?

I saw A Little Romance go through, very tight, quick, light and catlike.

I would say Canada did well in the CCI3* then.
Jess finished 6th and 10th
Lisa finished 7th and Rachel finished 9th. Thats 4 in the top 10!

I don’t think any of JPs horses are top choices right now unfortunately.

It was a good showing, and its always nice to get more Canadian horses and riders qualified at the 3* level.

It is, however, also really important to look at the numerical scores in addition to placings. As we run up to the Olympics, we need to be looking to see what horses have the potential to secure a good team result. Unfortunately, getting a medal would require mostly sub-50s scores, so we also need to be realistic. Fortunately, the good news is that we have a lot of talented Canadian riders who will hopefully be able to develop quality horses for the future.

As for Pavarotti, I suppose they could be saving his legs but I suspect he may not be feeling 100%. I can’t think of any other reason to leave his CCI3* qualification to the spring - so much can go wrong and the number of qualifying opportunities only goes down as you get closer to August 2016.

Yes, he is half TB, half Welsh Cob, from the successful breeding program of Carol McDonald at Bryn Carregwyn Sport Horses. The Welsh Cob sire was the same on Lisa’s other 3* horse Smart Move, CIC 3* horse Uni Griffin, and advanced horse Uni Sprite.

Thanks, Blugal,- Carol McDonald’s horses usually have the B.C. prefix, so was not sure. That stallion, with almost no promotion, has proved himself in the eventing world. It would be special to have one of our own Pony Club riders with a locally bred horse make it (if).

I hope everyone who is concerned about the state of affairs at EC reads this:

I saw that too, LadyB.

Carol always names her horses with the BC prefix, agreed, and a Welsh name. But they are often changed. It is too bad that we, as well as the States, don’t have a better tracking system for horses so they can be followed no matter what name change.

On your other point - I will be the proud owner of one of these horses next year!

Because obviously the selection criteria developed is super cutting edge/uncharted territory. Ugh. EC’s stance on this is so incredibly frustrating and does nothing to help promote high performance sport.

Good grief. It must take many years of dedication to come up with such high-calibre bafflegab. Have the PTB at EC simply degenerated into a clutch of second-rate civil servants with neither the will nor the competence to make important decisions? Which new cabinet minister will be in charge of them? Hopefully she or he can dust off the cobwebs and get things moving along swifty and openly again.

Bravo, Blugal. If you keep the B.C. I can keep track of it!

Thank you, Foxtrot’s. That she is!

I got to pat A Little Romance @ Galway! Her dressage test was a thing of beauty, and one I hope to emulate (one day)
