so - Fanfayre - were you being an event groupie, or were you RIDING at Galway???
Event groupie- went to help a friend with vet box cool out in the T3D and cheered on the rest of our BC and Canadian riders. What an experience- and an education!!!
Very competitive and so many divisions…is your AFR baby coming along?

I got to pat A Little Romance @ Galway! Her dressage test was a thing of beauty, and one I hope to emulate (one day)
Thank you, fanfayre.

Yes, he is half TB, half Welsh Cob, from the successful breeding program of Carol McDonald at Bryn Carregwyn Sport Horses. The Welsh Cob sire was the same on Lisa’s other 3* horse Smart Move, CIC 3* horse Uni Griffin, and advanced horse Uni Sprite.
Awesome horses, but then I’m biased. My 18 year old daughter owns and events a 14 yr old gelding by Brenin and out of a TB mare (Natural Junction). We live in WA State now and she recently moved up to Prelim on him, with the goal of the 1* at Rebecca Farm in 2016. He’s a jumping machine, like many of his siblings! The pony is definitely in there though!
Foxtrot’s: yes, she’s coming along. I just have to learn to stay on her when she puts on her very athletic pants! She keeps jumping me out of my saddle :o We ended the year @ PT and will start next year there too.
Hopefully one day I’ll be riding @ Galway, even if it’s just in the T3D.
Back to the subject of high performance, has anyone else seen this blog regarding the lack of transparency of Equine Canada with relation to Rio and in general?
EC statement: http://equinecanada.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2351%3Aequine-canada-statement-regarding-high-performance-selection-criteria&catid=190&Itemid=413&lang=en
Because obviously the selection criteria developed is super cutting edge/uncharted territory. Ugh. EC’s stance on this is so incredibly frustrating and does nothing to help promote high performance sport.
Can someone find/fix this link. Link won’t work for me and can’t find it on the EC page.

I can’t find it again, either. I wonder if it has been taken down. Sadly, I didn’t copy/paste it.
The link is working, it says access denied but the article is there
At our recent horse trials AGM, the board reported to us that the lack of communication and transparency at EC is even worse than we thought. Throughout the entire year, EC/Canadian Eventing, did not send ONE email to our provincial horse trials association. Not one!
At the end of the Congress meeting, EC/Canadian Eventing promised that they would send at least ONE email during the next year. And we pay them how much?

I was asking about the equine Canada link which no longer exists.
Blugal- wow that is insane!

To say that the results of the summit were disappointing is a huge understatement. Apparently (and I only know this second hand so cannot verify) not only did they not fire the coach despite the riders submitting letters outlining their concerns about his conflicts of interest etc. but they made him a selector for Rio. barfs
So Canada is keeping the qualifying criteria secret
Here’s a new blog from Horse Sport Canada from the same author: “Please allow me to share with you the response I received from EC [Equine Canada] regarding the rationale for making the Rio criteria secret -and yes this policy is across the disciplines.”

These work for me.
Equine Canada just published another press release titled, ironically, “Canadian Eventing High Performance Program Reform.” This was also emailed to me (so, Equine Canada members? or just Canadian Eventing members?) titled, “Reform Under Way for Canadian Eventing High Performance Program.”
As any reader of this thread will have guessed, the press release is big on corporate-speak and mostly silent as to any details.
The email contains 3 quotes which aren’t contained in the press release:
Quotes
"The recent period of review and reform has led to effective change, and the end result is an exciting and positive program that can be embraced by the Canadian eventing community. The new Canadian Eventing High Performance Program is one that understands the clarity required of its athletes, coaches, owners, and many supporters. The athlete-centred and professionally directed program will certainly focus on the immediate responsibility to prepare towards Rio, but will also create the extended foundation that is fundamental in ensuring long-term success towards future Olympic, Pan American and World Equestrian Games.
- Ozzie Sawicki, High Performance Advisor - Canadian Eventing Team
"I would like to thank the eventing community for their continued commitment, feedback, and perspectives during the course of the review. We are confident that the performance changes taking place will allow the athletes who represent Canada to perform at their optimal level.
- Amie O’Shaughnessy, Equine Canada High Performance Director
“The current far-reaching changes within Equine Canada’s governance have trickled down to the Canadian Eventing Committee, which has recently undergone a re-modeling of its own structure. Following extensive collaboration of knowledgeable stakeholders in the sport, I believe the proposed fundamental changes will have a very positive outcome for our National and High Performance programs going forward. I am excited about the future and the direction in which our federation is taking us.”
- Peter Gray, Canadian Eventing Committee Chair

How odd…
Whatever they have done , they certainly are effusive in their self congratulation.
Too bad they aren’t sharing the great “end result” “far reaching” and “fundamental changes” with their membership.
Guess you fine Canadian folks are going along for the ride with your federation and they’ll let you know in which direction, at a later date.
Just sit back and relax. They’ll let you know when you have arrived at your destination and will help you disembark.
ETA Beware when you hear the phrase “trickling down” , it’s never a good sign.
Honestly, this is such a load of crap! Despite receiving over 20 letters from High Performance riders past and present outlining their concerns about conflicts of interest and lack of professionalism on behalf of the coach and selectors, EC has apparently responded by increasing the power of the coach and naming him as a selector!! barfs
As for the fabulous effect this will have on Canadian Eventing, numerous HP riders are expressing the view that if this is how corrupt EC is they don’t care if they never make a team. Well done EC, Bravo! I’m sure that kind of morale will do wonders for our international results!
ETA: Perhaps I am unfairly quick to blame EC. I do realize the coach is quick to threaten and intimidate those who speak out about what has been happening (even contacted yours truly to “talk” at one point but I naively blew him off by saying I trusted that EC would do its due diligence and investigate). He has been contacting HP riders who have posted statuses and commented on facebook threads. He has even threatened at least one person (non-rider) with a libel suit. That person responded with essentially “bring it” because there was proof for everything that was said but certainly the coach is not shy about protecting his “good” name and even better business position!
CF is a jerk.
