Eventing Canada - High Performance Summit

Not having any association with Canadian High Performance, I have received calls/messages from others that want to “discuss” my outspokenness on non-horse issues and even a few posts here. These individuals think they can intimidate under the guise of “discussion” and laughable threats of libel suits (might want to look up definitions of legal terms before you throw them around. …wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself throwing incorrectly). They are met with a brick wall and usually slink away with their proverbial tail between their legs. Frankly, I believe Clivers and others and lost ANY respect I had for CF.

Success is eventing does not necessarily mean there are applicable leadership skills. In fact, the hours required, often mean large holes in appropriateness and ability to deal with people. He can call me any time if he would like a recap.

It is a disaster!! The review seems to have empowered and endorsed the corruption!! Interesting to note that the “independent” reviewer had previously worked for EC, just didn’t have a contract and now he has a job! Not entirely independent as I define it.

It really bothers me how much JP falls… She has all her horses bitted up and they still always look like they are running through her hands. I feel like it’s dangerous and her chances of getting up and walking away are narrowing.

I really like A Little Romance, would love to see someone else on her, she appears to be really talented and the type to know her job and look after her rider.

Waylon has always been a favorite, he is quite talented.

I’ve been thinking about replying to this post all day -
WHAT A MEAN SPIRITED INDIVIDUAL YOU ARE - AND WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THE HIGH PERFORMANCE COMMITTEE OF EC???

Good, now that I’ve got that off my chest, so to speak, I’ll go on with my day…

I think CF has a LOT to do this. Her position and riding before was more natural and soft with DOC, since CF came along she’s fallen more, her position seems less natural. He’s changed a lot on her I find. IMO.

She just didn’t have time for her body to recover from having a baby, then again a bad injury…so many horses ridden and competing. It takes its toll…she has been really lucky and hopefully she is aware and trying to fix this…this is why I have a hard time supporting her a choice for the 2016 Games but she is ECs sweetheart so we know she will be #1 choice even after such a terrible 2015 track record. CF doesnt seem to have the best horsemanship ideals either.

But she still pulled through for the Pan Ams being our strongest, so she knows how to get the job done.

You are obviously entitled to your opinion, but I think there is a place for opinions and a place for facts. While she may not be your favourite rider, I think “terrible 2015 track record” is a difficult statement to support, particularly in the context of wanting our #2 rider in the FEI rankings to not be named to a team. She should be named if she has a sound horse who is likely to be one of the most competitive combinations, just like any selection process.

Ditto x 100.

At the 3/4* level, it wasn’t great. So who decides where I am allowed to state opinions and where I am allowed to state facts?

Which horse would be the one you support for the team?

If you read closely, you’ll note that I said “I think there is a place for opinions and a place for facts”. No one is telling you what you can or cannot do. Feel free to post whatever is within the COTH rules, but I’m personally of the view that facts should enter into the equation when discussing team prospects.

I’ve already disagreed with you regarding your view that she had a “terrible 2015 track record”. I’m not really sure that its useful to discuss what constitutes “wasn’t great”. Sure, there were some missteps - including a fall at Rolex. But she had 8 CIC/CCI3* completions this year as well.

In terms of teams, I’m not sure what you mean by “support”. No one is asking for my vote. I follow results during the year (but not obsessively). We will have to see what is sound and running in the spring. While I have concerns regarding Pavarotti’s ability to make time - he is one of only a few Canadian horses who has consistently delivered a dressage score in the 40s at that level, and usually jumps around clean. Pending, soundness issues, I would suspect we will see Jessica Phoenix/Pavarotti, Rebecca Howard/Riddle Master & Selena O’Hanlon/Foxwood High (provided that he returns to form - his dressage has improved, but he has had some missteps on XC since WEG) on the team, with a fourth spot fairly up in the air.

And two horses qualified for Rio.

Just in the nick of time. I see Patras VR is for sale, maybe to make room for a new one?

I think people take my posts too seriously…most of it is written tongue in cheek.

Finally the media is taking notice of what has been going on! Bravo to Horse Sport for having the guts to publish this article!!

Is there any way to read this online?

Lists have been posted… surprised with some that are posted on here…

2016 Canadian Eventing Elite Squad (in alphabetical order)
Rebecca Howard, Salmon Arm, BC (currently residing in Marlborough, GBR)
Holly Jacks, Orangeville, ON
Selena O’Hanlon, Kingston, ON
Jessica Phoenix, Cannington, ON
Waylon Roberts, Port Perry, ON (currently residing in West Grove, PA)

2016 Canadian Eventing National Squad (in alphabetical order)

Peter Barry, Dunham, QC
Hawley Bennett-Awad, Aldergrove, BC
Kyle Carter, Calgary, AB (currently residing in Sparr, FL)
Lisa Marie Fergusson, Langley, BC
Lesley Grant Law, Toronto, ON (currently residing in Ocala, FL)
Colleen Loach, Dunham, QC
Kathryn Robinson, Kettering, GBR
Karl Slezak, Tottenham, ON

I was wondering why Red Hills is not on the list of observation events for Canadian riders.
So…what drama is in our future?..I can only guess that Stuart Black will be selected again at the last minute for the team to go to the Olympics…just like the PanAms!!!

I would like to know how Hawley is still considered a rider for the National Squad.

Of the riders named, how many have horses who are qualified for Rio?
Besides Jess (with A Little Romance! )
