Eventing on a Pony

I have a large Connemara x pony who I bred and have taken out at BN this year as a 5 year old and hope to move up with her. And I’m taller than 5’3". I do like them small, sporty and sassy as a personal preference.

I think she’s got the scope to go beyond BN.

I evented in my home country on a 148cm pony and it’s not at all unusual in Ireland or the UK. One of Ireland’s top internationals is an overgrown Connemara and from stories from eventingnation, they often report on unusual breeds and successful pony combinations. Indeed I am looking to buy either a 148cm/158cm to start competing here. If anyone knows of any suggestions, do pm me please

I event on a pony. He was my pony hunter, and we got bored so switched (plus, hunters aren’t fun for adults on ponies). We did 4 intro level events over the course of 3 years, this year we got serious and did our first BN and he’s totally rocking it. Qualified for Area I Champs at his first BN, so we went to Champs as his second BN and he even got a ribbon! He’s usually one of very few ponies at an event (he’s 14.2 and a big solid guy) but always holds his own! I’m also 5’10, so not quite what you’d expect, but we have such a blast! He’s easily cruising around the BN, so we might make the move to N next year after getting our dressage straightened out. I never, ever imagined I would be saying that a year ago! He’s amazing.

I would LOVE to see your guy but FB says I don’t have permission to view :frowning: any chance they’re set to private or friends only?

That pony has buckets of scope. I won’t be surprised to see you showing off pics of you all going at LEAST training in a couple of years!

My 14.1 hand super pony is currently going Training, definitely has the scope for at least Prelim but I need to get it together a little more before we attempt that

This is my beautiful eventing pony. She’s gone up to Intermediate in schooling shows but I won’t let her do XC anymore because I worry too much.

She’s not supposed to be a pony. Her parents are both horses. Her sisters are horses. But she was born tiny and stayed that way.

We’re about to put her on a new career path as a combined driving pony. She has all the dressage training; we just need to see if she likes working in harness. And guess what? We can actually compete her as a pony.
Beautiful video.

Beautiful video.
Thank you. We all love Zizi very much – she’s an easy ride and is as good with beginner kids as she is with pro adults.

Teddy O’Connor, what’s not to love. My favorite bit is how, when she checks him, he says “Don’t tell me what to do” for a nanosecond, then obeys and jumps beautifully thru.

SUPER cute.

So many cute ponies!

I am fearing I’m slightly too big looking on my 13.1 hander, but will get her going and see how we look in the spring after she’s hopefully grown a smidge and filled out and I’ve hopefully lost more weight!

ETA: vet did a once over on the new pony today and discovered she’s very likely 3, not 4 as advertised. Explains why she was such a weedy looking 4 year old  More likely to get that bit of extra height, and both string tests suggest she’ll hit 13.3h. Will wait and see!

How tall are you… you don’t look short but you don’t really look too big for that pony… so jealous! My 5’2 is just too big… or it might be the tata’s make one look bigger… LOVE THE PONIES!!!

I’m just shy of 5’2 but still have some weight to lose. I know someone my height with less… junk in the trunk would suit her better :stuck_out_tongue:

Having this pony is just extra motivation to stay on track!
