Experience with Morton buildings?

Which kind did you choose, if you don’t mind to tell us?

If you rather don’t, that is ok too.

Will we get to see pictures?

I am going with Morton. Their guy was so professional and easy to talk to, love the buildings, the warranty, etc. Yes, I will share photos as work begins and proceeds.

It will be pretty and nice, interesting to see how they build it.

You will love to have a place out of the weather to play and ride with the horses and family.

Pictures would be so nice, thank you.

Apparently this is happening! Got approval for the financing I need, got a proposal I love, got a contractor … Hopefully we will be doing this by springtime![/QUOTE]

Congrats!!!

Yeah! One thing to keep in mind is that they like to get in and get out. Make sure they give you time to line up your electrician to wire before they close everything up. If you look at their websire, lots of the buildings look like they have the wiring done after the fact.

FreshAir, thanks for the tip. Electrician is coming out next week to discuss the project. My Morton guy seems very thorough.

Checklists anyone?

The electrician, the builder, and the dirt guy are all coming out here the week after Thanksgiving. This is my chance to get it right before anything gets started.

Would love anyone’s checklists, advice, etc. I am so excited, I might sign off on anything just to get it started!

Impress on the electrician that for humans, he wants light to come from above, for horses, from the side.
Not to put light in the middle of aisles, but on the sides, the same in stalls and washroom/grooming area.
You don’t want a big shadow below the horse, but light hitting the horse where you can see the whole side, legs, etc.
Then repeat to every electrician he sends to do the work, they some times are sent to do it without instructions “because they know their job”.

Put in the contract with the builder that you want a copy or three of the plans, every one of them, foundation page, framing, etc., all.

Then when they run the plumbing runs and later the plumbing, you check that they got it in the right place, not 6" or more off, so when they pour the concrete it will be in the wrong place.
You get a 25’ or 30’ tape and one 100’ also and keep measuring behind them.

Make sure that you have gutters included in the price. When they built my barn/indoor the contractor tried to tell me that would be another $800. I had dealt initially with a home builder and he contracted the barn/indoor to a barn builder. I simply asked the builder did he include gutters in the price on the home and he said yes. Then I said “fine don’t try to get me to pay extra for them.”

Good point about gutters. Yes, they listed out and included in the price I have so far. All good stuff, thanks.

Please post pictures

Morton’s quote was about 100K over what I am getting mine done for! My more local off brand folks were about 25K more than what I can get the Amish to do it for. I know I am here short term and the building may not always be an indoor so I am going on the cheaper side since I won’t get my money back out of it.

We had a Wick building put up and love it!!! We chose the builder and he builds Wick, similar to Morton. The electrician was very helpful in determining lighting requirements.

Mortons quote was double on my indoor, 15 years ago. Local guy did mine same as Amish quotes.

That is so odd. My Morton estimate is right in line with the other estimates I got. Morton was about 10% over the lowest estimate, but Morton’s included lots of upgrades that the lower estimate did not. For instance, the lower estimate did not include any windows, while Morton’s has 10 slide windows with shutters.

I guess it just varies so much from region to region. I have two satisfied Morton-built arena owners in my area to visit this weekend! One is slightly larger than what I am planning, the other is exactly the same size.

It is good that you will get to see what others have and then you can tweak what you want in yours, after seeing theirs and what you like or would want different.

Much better than just guessing at all that on the picture in your mind, that may not match theirs.
