Facebook Group: As Seen Through Horses' Ears

I too am a fan of that. I just love the scenery variety, through the ears.

I am on it! I posted once. I will post again when I have a post worthy view. I love to see all of the pictures from around the world. It is so fun to see that we are all doing the same thing – even in Singapore!

The CALENDAR is READY! Since the beginning of the ASTHE (As Seen Through Horse’s Ears) group on Facebook, people were saying, "Gee, you ought to do a calendar! Well, they did. It can be purchased through lulu.com (just search for As Seen Through Horses’ Ears) for about $26.00 including tax and shipping, and it is available all over the world–which is where the ASTHE members come from. Check it out. Christmas is coming, and we all need little gifts for horse people!

Oh, and the even more wonderful thing? The proceeds of sales of the calendar are going to the horse rescue in Eygpt called Prince Fluffy Kareem,

Ohhhhhhh. I will have to get one. That is a worthy cause

ASTHE is the best group on FB!

I’m a member of another one with a similar title and thought they were the same. Joined up with yours now, too!

ASTHE was the original Facebook group with this theme, but since they are very strict about not allowing photographs that are not taken through the ears of a horse, some other groups started up that are more liberal about what can be posted. ASTHE also requires that you post the location (city, state, country) where you took the photo, and do not allow multiple photos (albums) to be posted. They are very strict!

I absolutely adore that calendar! It is now on my shopping list.

ETA I’ve also asked to join the group. It struck me as a great way to get someone who is anxious about riding out to enjoy riding out. Pause, whip out the phone, take a horse-ear-framed picture and now you have evidence that you’ve done a cool thing!

Well done.

Paula

Oh yes, yes they are! I will have to check out the latest posted photos, I am sure there are beautiful ones.

I joined the group back when it had 1,600 members before it expanded exponentially (now it has 32,000+ ) - when it grew, they got new moderators, new rules - and there started to be a bunch of silly drama.

I got a strongly worded reprimanding message once on a photo I posted. It was a bit perplexing as I DID do the things the nasty gram was telling me I didn’t - when I asked what the heck they wanted from me - I was told “oh, thats a pre- typed” nasty gram, and that I was correct, most of what was addressed in the note did not pertain to me.

Turns out they wanted the label to appear in a different manner - a way that was impossible to do from an Iphone.

I don’t need to be scolded by strangers - so I left the group.

Hi everyone, I am glad those of you who are members of ASTHE are enjoying the group. Those of you who have had frustrating experiences, I apologise. Managing a group that exploded to over 32,000 members is not easy and does limit the wiggleroom. As group creator, I am also nostalgic sometimes for the cozy feeling back when we were only 1,600 members. On the other hand, we have members posting amazing photos from literally all corners of the world.

There is nothing about the requirements for posting that is impossible to do from an iPhone. Or a tablet, computer, android, blackberry, or whatever. All the points in the guidelines are carefully considered and the result of now three years of experience with the group. Yes, they are strict, but they are not difficult. Location is not more than country + area within that country, with everything spelled out. We don’t want to know your street address!

One of the wonderful things about the group is that it is essentially drama free. We went through a short period, perhaps what Appsolute is referring to, where there was a spat of snarkiness, but that has long since subsided.

Cheers, Lisa (aka Evil Admin)

13 of those fantastic around the world photos are featured in the calender. 100% of the proceeds go directly to supporting the egyptian horse welfare group Prince Fluffy Kareem. Have a look at their Facebook page. It is amazing what they are dealing with, and having some truly miraculous results.

We had a vote on the group for the charity to support with the 2015 calender. Next year we will vote again on a new charity to support with the calender sales.

Thanks for chiming in, Ozalynda. You certainly speak for ASTHE far more knowledgeably than I can. I am just a happy member, not an administrator. I love looking at the photos on ASTHE and finding so many kindred spirits in the group.

Have no idea how many there are. The one I joined was started by a fellow NATRC competitor who often took pictures that way and thought it would be fun for her friends to share. Then it kept growing. When I heard someone mention the between the ears thing here I made the mistake of thinking they were talking about the same group.

I also am normally good about reading the rules but I joined on my phone and didn’t see the pinned post, oops.

Nothing wrong with strict on a group that large!

I received my ASTHE calendar today! Very nicely done! The photos are gorgeous! Good, heavy stock paper, and well packaged for shipping.

Bravo!!!

And not just well packed for shipping. I was expecting a bubble mailer or mylar envelope. But it was shipped in a cardboard box, which will be easier to wrap and makes a nicer presentation for gifts. I can’t believe that they do that for the price and still have more than $7.00 left over for the charitable donation to Prince Fluffy Kareem!

Today we hit 35,000 members!!! And you COTH folks have seen the birth of the group. Baby has grown up.
