XC day!! We got a little bit of rain overnight, which is good. Walking the course I thought the ground was a bit hard on Thursday so should be good today. Have safe rounds everyone
Early in the two star, and there has already been one rider fall and one horse fall.
That is concerning.
Early on one of the falls was before a fence, they slipped.
Bobby Meyerhoff’s horse was down for a bit but he did walk onto the trailer
I saw Bobby walking around in stabling with a bag of ice. I would not have recognized him but one of the grooms pointed him out to me. She tells me the horse is fine too
Cross country is streaming Live on USEF Network right now. https://www.usef.org/network/coverage/2018fairhill/
I love me some J Woff, but if he says “thank goodness for the air vests” ONE MORE TIME
Just can’t stand the free advertising, but carry on
Fair Hill 5*/4*. I just listened to the latest USEA Podcast on Fair Hill future. Very disappointing. Barely any mention of the horses, stabling, riders…only small mention about clearing for the rings. The whole push was about the VIP/customer experience and bringing in experts who have run big events in other disciplines to market and ticket. I was left wondering if they are even taking into consideration the actual competing horse and rider. Plus, I have never believed the Fair Hill spin about why they have not had streaming in the past. Many remote locations have streamed their shows/events for years. I am glad this year they dropped the spin and organized available technology to stream. Streaming this year was excellent with Jimmy Wofford and his insights. Finally some effort put into sponsorship for the stream.
That reminds me that I saw Top Rail Tack is selling t-shirts at Fair Hill that say something like, “If at first you don’t succeed, change your canister and try again.” I suppose that is more free advertising for air vests, but they are frickin funny.
USEF did it - (the live streaming) and those guys are really efficient and great at setup and camera angles - man, they come out, the cameras are on, the cameraman is up on the platform, then it’s over, they take the stuff down and boom they’re gone. I don’t know who paid for it. It does not have to do with Fair Hill, tho. I think the USEF Network selects its destinations. Because it’s the fall American championship I think it got it this year but it is running against medal finals in NY and some other championship in the US also. Perhaps that is why it did not get streamed last year - the October weekends are really full of year end championships in many equestrian sports.
Cross-country day was about as perfect as it gets. Footing perfect. Weather perfect. Very few falls. Lots of great riding. Good sport! And my farmhouse decorations were on TV a LOT!!! Maybe we on the east coast should take some pointers from our compatriots on the west coast…
