Fantasizing about next horse, best QH lines?

I’d never heard either of those terms before. But I think I’d take boggy over soggy.

Just when you think you’ve got a pretty good handle on the English language, the American horse scene, or both, boom. Learn a whole new thing. It’s a wild ride out here.

I’ve got a QH from ranching/rodeo lines (Peppy San Badger, primarily) who is, and I’m not exaggerating, The Best Boy. Started him at 5, and at 13 he’s got a pretty credible 4th/PSG repertoire although we primarily show western dressage as he is a 6 - 6.5 mover in the USDF side of the house. I think we can make some inroads to 7s but we’re going to have to manufacture some more trot suspension and that takes training & time.

He’s not large (I keep calling him 15hh on entry forms but he’s probably closer to 14.2 or 14.3), and he is almost level but not quite, but he’s an absolutely bottomless pit of try hard all the time. With a generous dose of very cute. And that has been much more fun to take out and school every day than some other more talented (but less generous) horses I’ve owned in the past.

Tl;dr: Highly recommend. Very fun. Very cute. Weirdly talented.

Are you showing at I think it is Level 5 dressage? How is he doing regarding scores in WD? Sounds like you two are close to maxing out at WD. Your boy sounds like an absolutely awesome horse.

This is our first year showing level 5, averaging ~65% with a pretty wide range (low 60s to low 70s) due primarily to pilot errors. And also full pirouettes are hard.

The one downside to my guy, if I’m to pick on anything, is that he is a short-coupled little guy which makes bending tougher than the longer looser body types. We can get 8s on half pass and pirouette but I have to be on my A game… which is sporadic and unreliable.

Omg… stunning. That right there is my dream horse.

So interesting to see it’s all the same bloodlines kicking around.

There’s a breeder nearish here that was breeding Hancock horses but I think one of the lines was coming up epsm too regularly so they had to stop using the stud. Gorgeous blue roans.

I’ve known a couple of Hancocks who were awesome horses!

I have a little Baden-Wurremburg gelding who could teach Quarter Horses a thing or two about rollbacks!
