Farm recommendations in Hampton, VA? Esp. pasture board
Was this Fortune, the horse that was the subject of your thread about the dispute over ownership?
Yes, it was. And the trip was for 9 weeks of proton beam radiation at HUPTI. I was too sick to take him by the time treatments started at the end of March so he stayed home on my farm. He would have been nice to have with me if I’d been healthier. The court case involving Fortune is set for October. The person who took him’s husband has been found guilty of other crimes committed against me in the meantime. I answered all your many questions on the Disabilities board.

ETA: Late thank you to posters who offered suggestions. My health deteriorated pretty majorly right around the time I posted and I was totally overwhelmed with dr appointments, the power going off at the farm every time a squirrel farted, some health issues with my dad, and working with insurance to finalize approval for the treatments at HUPTI. I didn’t mean to brush anyone off and had actually hoped to get to meet Daydream Believer and see her pretty horses in person.

I’m really sorry you didn’t make it down to visit and especially sorry that you were so sick. :frowning: I hope you are feeling better at least.

Thanks DB. Maybe one day. I like the natural farming thing you do. I’m starting to feel better. Have a few more health things to schedule and deal with and then hope to be feeling much better, hopefully for a decent stretch.

I used to ride and show at Riverdale when I was a teenager! I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Numbers. I leased him for several years when I was there and I was madly in love with him. Please tell me you have photos of him. I remember when he was sold, I missed him so much. Please email me at hrsewmn@Hotmail.com. He was the best horse I’ve ever ridden!

Hey Everyone, I know this post is quite old but I was hoping to bring it back up and see if anyone else had anything to say or farm suggestions. I am going to be spending some time In Hampton VA this winter and would like to check out some farms for a potential move next fall or in the future. Seems like its slim pickings and its a bit of a concern. Esp since Ill be leaving a beautiful new england farm. I am an evener/dressage rider but really just looking for a place with A+ care and staff, good turnout, and great people. thanks in advance! Please feel free to PM me if you’d like!

I live in Gloucester and work in Colonial Williamsburg.
I really depends how much money you would like to spend. There are some beautiful farms in and around Williamsburg, Toano and Yorktown. But it will all be pricey. If you don’t mind the drive there are some nice places in Gloucester that are reasonable. I really like living here. Its a good size horse community. I ride Dressage to thought I have not been very active in the last year. One thing you and your horse have to get used to, depending where you are from, is the humitity and the bugs. We got lots of both. Not all horses, coming from cooler climate, do well with it, especially if you are looking at pasture board.

I boarded at Kentucky Farms back in 96/97 I think when I was in college at CNU. At that time it wasn’t a bad place to be. They had a lighted ring and MILES of trails. I haven’t been there in FOREVER though because I hate going to NN/Hampton because of the traffic.

I’m not sure that there are any boarding barns with the Williamsburg Area that still do pasture board but I will say to stay AWAY from Stonehouse Stables. I haven’t seen a horse come out of there that isn’t eaten up with ulcers.

If you are willing to drive to Williamsburg Willow Pond Farm is a great place to go and though I haven’t been there in a while I have heard that Carlton farms gives good care. They are both more of a h/j barn but if you are looking for great care Karen at Willow Pond is the best.

What about Chesapeake? The BO/BM is a COTHER:

Thanks everyone…keep coming with the suggestions!

Join the Hampton Roads and NENC Horse Boarding and Services group on FaceBook and ask there as well. I’m not sure about dressage/eventing barns in the area.

Will be in the Hampton area in a few weeks to check out some barns in the area for future boarding, would love some last minute suggestions!

Did you find anywhere? I’ve recently relocated to the Hampton, VA and am looking for a place to ride! I don’t currently own a horse, so am just looking for a jumper to lease/trainer to take lessons with/go to shows with. I’d also be open to teaching part time (I trained for 7 years professionally in NY), but am not looking to get back into it full time! Also open to getting in touch with private owners/farms who might want a trainer to come to them/work with their horses/go to shows with. Any info would be great! Thanks!

I saw the negative comment regarding Topline Horse Center. I boarded my horse at Topline for several years. The horses are very well cared for and the people are friendly. I took lessons there for years and was very pleased with the instruction. The owner is a very experienced local farrier named Jim Creeden who comes highly recommended by local veterinarians, and he did absolute wonders for my horse in the years that I boarded at Topline. My horse actually had been experiencing months of on and off lameness up until the time we arrived at Topline. Jim Creeden checked out my horse and began corrective shoeing using aluminum wedge shoes and plastic reconstructive methods and my horse was and remained Amazingly sound for all of the years that we boarded at Topline
I had visited several other barns in the Hampton roads area, and I can tell you that even though Topline is a smaller facility and they are a little bit selective on who gets in, I consider boarding and riding at Topline Horse Center to have been one of my best experiences of my years living in Hampton roads Virginia.
