Curious what everyone is paying for trims, front shoes, full set … special/ortho shoes? Can you post your location and the cost for what your horse receives (brief description if something non-basic)? I am feeling like we’re a bit pricey here but I’m curious what everyone else pays! Very curious to see what the prices look like region to region.
Maryland near NW Baltimore. $50 trim, $100 front reset, $120 new front shoes, $180+ 4 shoes.
My guy is expensive but he is a MASTER and the most upstanding gentleman you could ask for. He’s worth every penny. I shoe my own sometimes but between pregnancy and kids I haven’t had the strength to do it recently.
Southeast VA:
$35 trim
$90 fronts
$120 all around
$150 all around drilled for studs
(all these are steel shoes)
Excellent farrier with lots of corrective shoeing and several years of major vet school experience.
We are in NY, but not the most expensive part of the state.
Trim is $50.
Front shoes are $125
Full set is $200.
$50 extra for front pads.
$50 extra for front aluminum.
$50 extra for front bars.
$50 extra for front winter rim pads
Pour ins are $100 extra for two feet.
Our farrier doesn’t discount for resets (when he does them).
He does great work and we are very happy with him, but there are others in the area that are highly wanted and much more expensive.
Middle TN- $40 for trim, $50 travel charge.
$165 for 4 shoes, $190 for 4 shoes with snow pads in front, $295 for a full set with Polyflex glue-ons in front. SW Ohio
Charlotte NC. Hubby is BWFA Master farrier, I am Journeyman II, trims $40, fronts $75, all around $95. Specialty work varies. Currently most expensive horse gets 4 oversize clipped shoes, pads, and pour in packing in front for $200.

Sacramento, CA - My 20 yr old ISH gelding is barefoot currently. $50 for a trim. My farrier has only ever trimmed him so not sure what his shoeing goes for. $50 is pretty standard around here for a trim but full shoeings and anything special can run $100 to outright crazy above $300.
Our farrier went through the two year certification course - not sure what level that makes him, but he is excellent.

Coastal South here. My farrier charges $40.00 for a trim. Currently paying him $140.00 for front shoes with frog support pads (purchased separately and can be used multiple times). Second horse is in front shoes with pour in pads and cost is $130.00. I think he didn’t charge me for the pour in pads because he felt sorry for me;)
I pay $100 for a set of fronts, $150 for all 4. Price doesn’t change for anything special like pads or studs or aluminums.
I love my guy.
Finger Lakes Region, NY - $30.00 per trim (miniature horses) with a $10. farm call.

I’ve been using the same shoer for almost 20yrs & last increase in price was 10yrs ago or more, so I expect I may be getting a discounted price for longterm customer.
Trim is $30
Have not had one shod in over 20yrs so I have no idea what he charges.

In NoVa I pay 50.00 a trim, 140 front shoes. Farrier is outstanding on trims, shows up in time and very pleasant.
I am in Douglas County Colorado and pay $65 for a trim and about $180 for a full set of hot shoes with clips. It’s a little more when we drill and tap for studs. My farrier is also a vet so I am happy to pay him whatever he wants!
Northeastern PA: $25 trim, $150 full set, $80 fronts. Other farriers I’ve used in the past have been $125 and up to $200 for full sets.
Current horse is barefoot so I give the farrier $30/horse and bring her a coffee and muffin as I only have 2 that need to be done right now and she comes out on Saturday’s so I don’t have to miss work - which I REALLY appreciate.
Interesting reading these stats. I think I need to raise my price from $35 to $45!

However, the barn I trailer into has drastically different prices with the “sport horse” farrier:
$100 trim
$200 fronts
$275 front/hind set
$300+ once you involve pads or special shoeing
