Farrier costs

Here in Los Angeles, I pay $40 for a barefoot trim. All-round shoes are usually $150-$175.

My guy gets custom aluminum shoes that are slightly wedged behind to correct his long toes. $250 every 6 weeks. Gulp

Farrier is also a well-known master farrier who specializes in corrective shoeing.

Salt Lake City, UT

4 custom bar shoes and pads $225.00 every 6 weeks
Trim $60.00

Respected farrier who has kept my aged horse with “issues” in consistent work for past 10 years that I have owned him. Well worth the price for me.

I was going to mention some of the above. After a long day on the job my farrier often calls back to schedule an appointment sometimes between 7 and 8 at night. That means he is still on the job and not sitting down and relaxing like most of the working population.

Or sometimes he has to drive out to where I board and do one horse for $50.00. It’s almost like he is losing money in a case like this.

He does a great job and I appreciate it and have no problem paying $50.00 for a trim.

$565.00 for a trim in back, plus 2 front shoes every month for a seriously foundered horse and a master farrier. Also a 4 hour round trip to the hospital every month.

A great trim or shoeing job = priceless!

I went through farrier hell with my special needs horse. As a boarder I was sometimes required to use the barn farrier. When farrier appeared to me to be either careless or incompetent, I had to change barns to change farriers! Next one could or would not work well with vet on horse’s specail needs. I trailered out to special farrier who was better but the situatin was not sustainable as we couldnt always fit into his shcedule.

Found current farrier and I’m not letting him go! He has done wonders with my horse. Comes to barn just for mine. Horse has eggbars with clips, pour-ins and very careful balancing. Cost is now around $200 every five weeks, like clockwork. A better job than the $250 guy I trailered to, and a totally superior value to the $150 guy who did a lousy job.

Seems rather low except very north and very south NJ.

Today I paid $80 for two front in steel with leather pads and magic cushion, no trim behind.

It really depends where you are, as with most things.
My guy goes barefoot and I pay $60 for a trim in NY.

Trim $50
Trim and front aluminums $115
Trim and front steels $105
All around shoes around $200 I think

Our guy is higher than a lot in the area but WELL worth it. His shows falls off 200% less than any other farrier we’ve used and hes got one of our horses sound and moving well whos been off for quite awhile.

You get what you pay for…

In Michigan

$15. for a trim with the Cornell trained farrier. Usually does 10-12 horses a visit. Usually does the broodmares and the youngsters.

$60. front shoes/$25. for trim Oklahoma trained farrier who does hot shoeing.

This is in the Finger Lakes Region of NY.

Trim $50
Trim + 4 shoes $160

I’m in FL. My farrier charges $40 for a trim and $100 for trim + fronts.

He does hot & cold shoeing and has totally changed my horse’s feet (in a good way!). Super friendly, and he comes out ASAP if anything goes awry. He usually trims 10 or so horses each time he comes out (some shoes, some not).

For Ontario Canada:

$30.00 for 4-way trim, $25.00 if my farrier is doing more than one horse.

$90.00 for 4-way trim and front shoes (steel). $100.00 if it’s the only horse she’s scheduled to do that day.

If a horse pulls a shoe in between visits, she’ll come out and re-set it for free within 2 days. She’s rarely late (if she is then she always calls), reliable, sane and is always advancing her knowledge in her trade (clinics, classes, demos, etc). I know I am very very spoiled, I tip her quite generously as a result.

Shoeing
Are those prices pretty standard for farriers in your area, or do you pay extra for a specialist?

I pay $250 for 4 steel shoes. Orthopedic shoeing is higher, of course. But, my guy is a master farrier; he is definitely more expensive than the other farriers at my barn.
Voldemare: This is for a sport horse farrier who does hunter/jumper/dresage horses only. He flys out for 25 horses every 6 weeks. He is a journeyman farrier certified with a lot of experience. So we all split his expenses on top of the price. He is worth everypenny!
