Favorite casual riding attire? (brand/style/etc)

Warm weather: Riding Sport side zip breeches. I have chocolate, smoke blue, and tan. Polo (any brand) or some technical wicking fabric shirt, like the kerrits and riding sport ones, but always with a collar. Ariat paddock boots with riding sport suede 1/2 chaps or my old Ariat Hunter dress boots.

Cold weather: Same breeches, or any polar fleece lined breeches, long sleeve polo or turtleneck with vest, or turtleneck with sweatshirt or fleece pullover. For really cold weather, I love cuddleduds under layers. Middleburg fleece lined tall boots, or Ariat winter paddocs (really old) and 1/2 chaps. Vest or Lands End Sqall, depending on temps. I have an original Mountain Horse coat that is just too dang heavy to ride in, but its great when I have to stand around the barn for other reasons.

SSG gloves, either crochet back for warm weather or the Winter Ranchers for cold temps.

Always, my IRH Air 10 helmet with hairnet. Although hair is not long enough for a ponytail, I hate having it stick out all over the place.

I got the bootcut Irideon breeches and am in love with them. I can wear short boots, they don’t ride up, I don’t get pinched by the leathers. They actually can pass for casual work pants.

Warm weather–t-shirt, riding tights (Tropical Rider Tropix and Kerrits are favorites) with half chaps (Tredsteps that are starting to die) and pull on boots (Blundstones). Sometimes I will bust out yoga pants and wear them with my fringed full chaps. Always wear my IRH ATV SSV helmet with a hairnet and SSG crochet gloves.

Cold weather–wicking baselayer (Northface, Under Armour, whatever’s on sale at TJ Maxx), long sleeved shirt, sweatshirt or fleece on top. Bottom is cheap Walmart hunting socks, long underwear (cold weather running tights–shiny fabric means it slips on easier under tight breeches) and fleece lined breeches. To the poster that asked about winter breeches, they’re wonderful. My favorite pair is Tropical Riders. Again with the IRH helmet and crochet gloves (my hands don’t really get too cold).

I do have two pairs of these super stretchy jeans and they’re pretty fantastic! Much cuter than the picture suggests!

I don’t show yet so most of my nice horsey clothes are hand-me-downs from my cousin who is decently wealthy:)
When it’s warm-- lacy tank tops or Ariat/Joules polos when I want to look nicer. Cheap grey and tan breeches like the “essential” pairs by Kerrits and Devon-Aire. Sometimes jeans- just Aeropostale/Levi’s jegging types. Thin Tuff Rider socks. Ovation zip-up paddocks and Riding Sport two-tone half-chaps. Some old leather belt that I use for everyday wear.
When it’s cold (this can be down to -10 fahrenheit)-- thermal long-sleeved shirts from my brother’s skiing days, whatever random t-shirt I pull out of the closet, a warm soft-shell Under Armour hoodie, sometimes on more cozy sweatshirt, and this old Carharrt-type jacket OR a puffy neon yellow winter coat with faux fur on the hood, from Aeropostale, too, I think. Fleece-lined leggings under jeans or thick breeches and sometimes two pairs of undies for my cold tooshie. Carharrt socks and non-horsey insulated boots. They are kind of wide so I have different stirrups for winter. SSG all-weather gloves when it’s not to cold and my dad’s hunting gloves when it is. Oh, and helmet. I use some old Troxel thing with a velvet cover to make it more sophisticated. I’m asking Santa for a Charles Owens this year.

Warm weather: Tuff Rider or Devon-Aire britches with a coordinating polo (thrift store). Leather belt, chocolate Ariat paddocks & half chaps, any socks that don’t slip down, Ovation Sync helmet, inexpensive gloves.

Cold weather: Pikeur corduroy britches (cheap on consignment), turtlenecks under sweaters (thrift store), silk liner shirt, Dafna winter boots, Smart Wool socks, inexpensive insulated winter riding gloves, fleece neck gator, Mountain Horse helmet liner, down vest or ancient fake Lands End squall jacket.

My shirts and coats are regular street-wear clothes. Can’t see spending money on hor$ey brand stuff.

Not to hijack… i thought about getting some of those winter breeches…the fleece lined ones. Can anyone tell me if they really keep you warm>[/QUOTE]

Yes, they do. I absolutely love mine. Mine are Kerrit’s brand.

Brown Ariat paddocks, tan suede, fringed half chaps (circa 1985), denim jeans ‘breeches’, sleeveless or short sleeved tee in summer, turtleneck and vest in winter. And a helmet; otherwise I’d might as well ride naked.

For schooling at home:

~Ariat Challenge Contour field boots (brown)
~Piper Breeches (if I could afford to school in Tailoreds all the time, I would. They are my favorite fit and fabric. Sigh…horse poor)
~Either a Champion racerback tank or Adidas Climacool tanks. It’s hot and humid down here. Sometimes I will wear an icefil shirt but I get too stuffy in them when I finish riding b/c of the humidity.
~All of my sports bras are Champion. My favorite is the Show Off racerback. Comfy and supportive and they come in lots of fun colors. I usually grab them on sale at the Hanes Outlet we have.
~Most of my tall boot socks for schooling are from sockdreams.com I love fun socks! For showing, I have to wear the nylon ones since my show boots are a bit tighter.
~I have a schooling Samshield w/ a big bright monogram (and one without for showing with no monograms. I don’t want to give GM a heart attack.)

Maternity khakis (even when I was skinny, no digging in waist band) or kerrits breeches.

Photography vest with trail supplies.

Ariat boots and fuller filly half chaps.

Whatever clean shirt I have. Mostly polos or horse themed t shirts.

Helmet and gloves.

Well, this is a super low budget option, but – the Faded Glory jeggings from Walmart give a stretchy yet substantial riding jean feel for $12.97 a crack. They come in light and dark denim, black, and khaki, wear quite well, and look nicer than you might assume from their source. Sure, there’s no knee patch, but that’s easily enough fixed with some scraps of ultra suede. I generally don’t bother with it. Since I live in So Cal, these are suitable year round for everyday knocking around in the saddle or around the barn.

I also wear inexpensive polos or tees from wherever I find them (including the thrift store), and my beat up but still functional men’s Ariat Terrain paddocks that are about 8 years old. If the weather’s cold, I’ll toss a zip-up generic polar fleece over the top, maybe put on my gloves, and I’m good. OH – and always my helmet to top it off.

I wouldn’t win any style awards, but it works for my needs and my budget.

Lol, some of the ‘casual’ outfits mentioned above are well above my take on casual!

For me casual is:

  • Stretchy jeans or TuffRider ribbed breeches
  • elastic belt
  • ariat Terrain H20 paddock boots
  • suede 1/2 chaps
  • Tipperary original helmet
  • SSG cotton grip gloves
  • polo, t-shirt or tank top - cotton voile when very hot

For colder Maine weather, I wear

  • ariat winter paddocks a 1/2 sz too big so I can wear thick Thorlo or Bridgestone socks in them
  • same chaps, and same helmet but with a fleece head band underneath
  • bootcut WindPro breeches ( love them!)
  • long sleeve shirt under light fleece sweater under quilted/ insulated vest
  • Mountain Horse winter jacket (only for outside tho, it’s too warm for the indoor unless I am only walking!)
  • silk glove liner inside insulated gloves.

Casually for Summer and winter I wear my horze halo helmet, gloves, and Dublin pinnacle boots with merino socks. The merino breathes really well and keeps you warm in winter cool in summer.
For summer Kerrits are my new favourite things to wear. The ice fill stuff is great. I usually wear a camel pack because I can dehydrate really quickly.
In winter I wear horze or Dublin breeches and a merino top. If it’s particularly cold I put silk long underwear on underneath, I absolutely love them! I also have an icebreaker merino vest that goes over the top, again the merino is fabulous for regulating temperature. I also wear those thermatec jackets with four way stretch if the weather is a bit dodgy. I have both the cheap generic knock offs and Kerrits and I am happy with both.

Most of my “lesson attire” is casual. I love my barn! I usually ride in Smartpak’s pipers for breeches, though I also have a pair of EC’s I like enough. I will usually ride in a technical shirt (Adidas or target brand, too cheap for ice fill/ts/etc), a smartpak V-neck, or a sports tank top. I always have a belt. I also ride in my Middleburg boots daily, though I’m starting to lust after a pair of V Sports. I have a OneK helmet, because it was cheaper and well ventilated. I have fallen in love with it!

I have a strange desire to own winter breeches, although it usually isn’t cold enough here to warrant the purchase. I also highly detest cold and love living in a warm climate, but I just really like the thought of winter breeches. Fleece-lined sounds delightful.

My usual riding get-up consists of a rotating selection of breeches (I have TuffRider aerocools, which I love, a couple of pairs of Devon-Aire, and Eurostar) and tall boots. I wear either a tech-fabric type shirt, or sometimes a regular fitted-type tee shirt. When it’s colder, long sleeves, a sweater, or a fleece zip up.

I just picked up a pair of black skinny jeans - they feel more like tights - to wear during the week. Being the trendsetter (not!) that I am, I tend to wear my full chaps for my nightly rides and the skinny jeans work really well under those. Add old ariat paddock boots that refuse to die, a short sleeved or long sleeved shirt (depending on the temp), gloves and helmet and I’m set to go.

I do wear full seat breeches (Pikeur are my go to brand), tall boots (currently Mountain Horse) and an appropriate shirt, helmet (CO Ayr8) and gloves for my weekly lesson. I’m just to lazy during the week to change into my tall boots, etc.

In the summer, my casual attire is either a light weight tee shirt or polo shirt and Tropical Rider riding tights. I like either the Enduro Cool or the Prix Tech. On my feet, I wear either Ariat Terrains or Ariat paddock boots and half chaps.

I retired my tall boots years ago. It was soooo liberating to store those instruments of torture away!I don’t event anymore, and for more polished occasions (clinics, lessons, local dressage shows, hunter paces etc.) I can wear my ‘good’ full grain 1/2 chaps and black paddock boots.

Favorite breeches are Romfh, particularly the denim Miss Romfh style. Also have several other styles, they fit and wear great. Just got a pair of Pipers, since they were on sale, very nice.
Ariat paddock boots, Tredstep pro half chaps, Neumanns Tackified gloves. Still wearing my old Charles Owen AYR8 but it will likely be replaced soon with something cheaper and cooler.
Shirts in the summer are either the Irideon sleeveless from several years ago, made of wicking material for hot days, or a polo or Tshirt for cooler days.
However, I wore my last remaining pair of Pikeur Mondegas today, since all my others were either in the wash or still drying. I miss that style!

I usually wear TS Trophy Hunters, an EIS sun shirt, Grand Prix half chaps, and Ariat paddock boots. Or my Mountain Horse tall boots.

For summer: EIS or TS IceFil shirts, or Nike Dri-Fit V-necks depending on how disgustinly hot it is, Trophy Hunters or SmartPak Pipers

For Winter: Kerrits or Irideon “fleeches” (fleece breeches) or my Trophy Hunters/Pipers (it’s the deep South, fleeches are rarely required). Columbia quarter zip fleece +/- Cabela base layer shirt, sometimes an infinity scarf (so I can wrap them up around my helmet lol), North Face puffer coat or Target puffer vest, or if it’s frigid, my Mountain Horse barn coat (love ittttt)

Ariat paddock boots+ Tredstep half chaps for schooling; DeNiro Salentos for lessons/clinics, and always my leopard print needlepoint belt. Winter-weight or normal Roeckls.
