Favorite Draft breeds for Sport horse potential.

Since they’ve been mentioned in this thread - although they make GREAT sport horse crosses, Irish Draughts and Friesians are not actually “Draft” horses.

As for draft crosses - they are very popular in Europe for field hunters. And I’ve seen quite a few doing nicely in dressage and eventing. Agree, Shire and Percheron are better alternatives then Clydes or Belgian, but (as already mentioned), part of it is the breeder understanding the successful crosses of a specific line.

They may not be CDI horses, but for the average rider, they can be a great (and less pricey) mid-level alternative.
