Favorite fly spray!

Right?! I’ve wondered this for years. Especially given Tri-Tec is always more expensive. I thought maybe there’s some inert difference I’m unaware of.

For the Canucks - I tried Golden Horseshoe Power Shield and although its stink is mildly reminiscent of Wipe and not as pleasant as black Ultrashield, nothing bit my horse. Landing wasn’t even prolonged. Mind you, where I’m at, we’re blessed this year with very few horse and deerflies (so far … ) but riding with Power Shield was MUCH more pleasant than with Ultrashield!

I decided to try it after doing a little research into which ingredients actually work and then figuring out which product available to us Canucks had the highest percentages. Bonus, since it’s not imported, it’s a bit cheaper than Ultrashield.

I’ve linked to our big retailer, but you should be able to find it at local shops for the same price

Tri Tec smells nicer :slightly_smiling_face:

Tip - get a cheap weed spray jug from home depot - its white-ish with a black spayer and maybe $15 bucks? Fill it with whatever concoction of fly spray your heart desires and spray down all the horses that way in one big swoop. You can adjust the sprayer wider or narrower to get the spray just how you want it and can coat them down super effectively instead of having concentrated spots of fly spray.

I’ve been using this one, I just could not stomach the price of the UltraShield Black anymore :stuck_out_tongue:. So far, so good!

I started using EcoVet this year and it works great on stable flies.

For ticks, mosquitoes and culicoides midges I use any lemon eucalyptus human grade spray (Repel, Cutter etc brands) - super effective.

Last year I had bought a bottle of some natural/herbal concentrate that was super effective and distinctive smelling but I lost the bottle and haven’t been able to remember what it was!

Was the natural spray Flicks? Quite a few people have mentioned to me that it’s good.

I used several bottles of Flick’s and LOVED it. It worked very well…for a ride. But a ride is all I needed it for. I was using a lot of UltraShield Black then, and didn’t want to keep applying the oil-based spray for rides, and then after rides, so used Flick’s for rides. It even kept the deerfly away
