Favorite "Thoroughbred" Dressage Saddles

My favorite dressage saddle I’ve ever owned was a County Competitor. Not only are Countys amazingly constructed and hold up forever, but it was super comfortable and fit my TB like a glove. It was one of those that I could throw on him with a baby pad, no half pads or other fit embellishments needed, and he went amazingly in it.

Regretfully, I sold it a few years ago when I was in a riding hiatus and needed the money. I wish I still had it!

I’ve had good luck with Prestige, Albion, and Frank Baines. Full front gussets are a life saver for a wider bodied TB with a high wither.

Wow, love all these comments. I am in love with my County Perfection but it will NOT fit a typical TB at all. It was custom made for a Connemara/TB, and is a straightforward nothing added Medium tree. Regretfully, I will have to sell it, unless new horse, whoever new horse might be, is the same flat backed big shouldered sort . And it fits like a typical MW.

I will probably look at used locally for awhile and then if nothing works, call my county rep and shell out the big $$$. Yikes, that’s a ton of $$$.

Jump saddle can be padded up - I have a County Conquest that I will not rehome because it works for so many horses.

I have a County Perfection that I ADORE! It fits my TB well too (he doesn’t have high withers and is quite narrow)

MTA: It is stamped XN-N (custom tree size in between, I bought it second hand).

I have an old Passier that Saje sold me. I LOVE THIS SADDLE, and so does my typical wither-y, narrow TB. The pommel is a bit cut-back. It’s pretty no-frills, but it does the job.

sooo… I have decided to try a Niedersuss Medium first - for $500, if it doesn’t fit, I will take it over to Middleburg Tack Exchange. No one mentioned this saddle if I recall, but if my memory serves me correctly, I believe they do often work for the higher withered TBs. We shall see!
