Yes Janet! Stroller was amazing!!! 14.3 and he jumped the Grand Prix fences and won a lot! I was lucky enough to see him at the Royal Dublin Show in '69 and he knocked my sox off!
Linda Reed’s horse was Smug! I loved him! Then she had a cool brown horse with a z shaped blaze. Can’t remember his name.
Silver medal at the Mexico City Olympics.
All right, my brain cells are seriously scrambled. I’m do remember Marni and Norbu but I also thought Gary Young had him when he was a tiny tot.
Now, I’m questioning whether Marilyn is actually who I’m thinking of. Do you remember if she was from Ithaca?
Hey Lessonlady: Drew Davenports lovely grey’s name was something Birch, possibly Blue Birch.
Carol Shepard? A lovely dark mare. Swan Lake possibly?
I probably know you.
Don’t forget about the Brocks (Lola and Jimmy) and Little Antietum. Or The Robin, or Not Again, (Schoellkopfs/Jewetts), Roses Are Red (Hev & Susie Lenahan). Oh, and Gub Gub w/Elizabeth Eden. And Coming Attraction. And Joanie Wells & Look. And I LOVED SMUG!
Carol Reed and I got in MAJOR trouble w/our trainers at Bradford, PA one year for after hours shenanigans.
I rode w/Mervyn & Bessie Alexander, then Stewart Moran, then John & Debbie Shaffner (Stephens).
Riders I remember from the Upstate NY barns that we hung around with…Amy Brumder, Jenny Paisley, Kismet & Sue Toksu, Claudia Tenney, Cynnie Hunt, Diane Murray, Jennifer McCauley, Candy Hoyt, Dibsy Rand, Helen Knox, and a bunch of guys and gals who shall remain unnamed but who are now household words in the top H/J training & judging circles. It was funny when I came back to riding after 30 years and realized a ton of people I used to ride with are famous and infamous. Ah, those were the days!
Of course, my personal favorite was Perfect Stranger ;). Magic Parade and Market Rise were in the barn, too, and I got to ride them on occasion.
My big time faves from that era were:
Gozzi
Rivet
Touch the Sun
Market Rise
Jet Run
Stocking Stuffer
Ruxton
Virginia Clay
Grey Mist
Sandsablaze
Don’t forget Roger Young and Toy Town.
Coming Attraction: was he a chestnut with a lot of chrome maybe a white splotch on his side/belly area. I vaguely remember. Who had him?
Ah, Janet, we do remember the same ones… but add to that list
Royal Blue (Bernie Trauig)
Serendipity (pony - Suzanne Smith - now Dr Smith)
Incantation (Andrea Kenyon/Robin Rost, later Nona Garson)
the Highfield’s ponies
Bam Bam (sm pony)
I will think of others…
AND STROLLER!!!
AND BILL STEINKRAUS riding anything!!

I don’t know. Isn’t 1800 trips at one Devon rather like Wilt Chamberlain and his conquests?
Or Gene Simmons and his conquests!!
Another vote for Ruxton and the always perfect Pandora

my mom picked out touch the sun
:D
I had to post before continuing on reading the rest of the thread … I remember seeing Touch the Sun at the Royal Winter Fair. Just nothing short of extraordinary and given I’m replying to this thread, memorable!
Your Mom has excellent taste!

recall a lovely grey Clouds and chestnut Salad Days, and a girl who had a grey pony and a grey horse with no tails! who was she?? marietta …whittlesey
did all the indoors with them.
wow, my brain hurts now!
marion coates and stoller and i got their biography book from GB and it was wonderful to read her life story she brought all the horses along herself and was not wealthy
Serendipity
I thought Margaret Houseman (sp) had him. I remember her making the “cut” at the old Garden in the Medals.
Lea’s Boots Casey Chamberlin
Russell Stewart could ride anything. Where is he now? Not Rusty, but his father. Last I heard, he was living in Studio City, but that was years ago.
Let me have a glass of wine and i am sure I can think of lots more.
Drew Davenport’s grey was Birch Bark I think or was that Fred Bauer’s grey? I know Drew’s horse had the name Birch in it somewhere.
Chance Step was Brooke Carmichael’s junior hunter but after she aged out Pam took over the ride as well as her own Lansonette.
Marion Coakes with a “k” was Stroller’s owner/rider - saw them one year at MSG and those fences were taller than he was, what an amazing pony. I have their book.
Roger Young
I thnk the horse Coming Attraction was a Jumper and belonged to Mrs Hewitt (JOHN DEERE) and ridden by Thom Hardy. That is the one I remember.
Thom Hardy’s family had the Highfield’s Farm and raised those wonderful ponies… that is now Snowbird’s farm.
