Feeding Collagen

So one of the secondary reasons I’m going to try it is my horse’s perpetual fecal water syndrome, because of this same result! Someone else said after trying literally everything else, collagen was the fix for their horse. I had already decided to have a go with it anyway, but this could be an added benefit. I’ll update if there’s any changes after a couple of weeks/months trial!

My reason for trying it is connective tissue support; my horse has a permanent hoof crack (cosmetic, surface level only) that’s a result of a pastern injury as a weanling, and because collagen healed my finger nail cracks (also injury related), I’m curious to see if it makes a difference in my horse.

She’s already on a very balanced diet confirmed with an independent nutritionist and gets religious hoof care with a focus on heel/caudal support, blah blah. So all other bases are very covered

I bought the AA supp about 2 days before I decided to try the collagen so I’m going to see it to the end of the bag, then make the switch for a while. No harm if it makes no difference, other than to my wallet!

I’m really interested if this helps him, and what product you use!

If the crack originates at the coronet, nothing will fix that, because the coronet is where the outer hoof wall originates and if there’s a defect there, it grows down as a defect

Sports Research Collagen Peptides unflavored powder. I took the recommendation of someone here on COTH for the brand.

Bumping this up from last year. Collagen Peptides powder was recently recommended to me by a relative for my way too many aches and pains, and after 3 doses, the pain is 50-60% better.

I want to try it on my arthritic dogs and horse. Does anyone know the dose either would get? The bottle I have now is 20g peptides per 4 tablespoons.

@BayBondGirl did it help with the fecal water syndrome?

I haven’t started it yet! Will report back once I do, though.
