Hay net soaked in tub. Dump tub on the lawn after soaking, let drain, hang hay net in stall over empty feed tub.
Great upper body work out.[/QUOTE]
I am in hay soaking he** right now LOL. This is exactly what we do for one batch and batch two is a laundry basket in muck tub which works great.
I have two large red muck buckets in my wash stall. I soak two batches at a time. One is a net, and one in a laundry basket. I use a 15 lb. kettlebell on top of laundry basket or soaking net to keep it submerged. Sometimes I use a black feed pan filled with water as a weight too.
Soak for 1 hour, and the laundry basket tub is placed near the door of wash stall which is kept open to grass. I simply tip that one out the door and it drains downhill.
Pony gets contents of laundry basket first. I just dump it in stall after I drain it a few minutes over the drain. You can just tip laundry basket over on side to drain. That batch is pretty wet but will eventually get eaten. Then mid day I give him the net that was drying outside. He seems to prefer the netted, dryer hay.
For the net “batch”, I keep that muck bucket near our hose hanger and keep a large rubbermaid bin under the hose hanger. I pull the net out and hang it over the rubbermaid to drip for a few minutes. Then I drag the net outside and hang on fencepost to dry in sun for a bit. The net is HEAVY so yep, great upper body workout I usually do 1.5 flakes in the net. 2 flakes gets too heavy.
Also, FWIW I had my timothy tested. First batch was not soaked and NSC was 13.2. Second batch soaked for only 1 hour and NSC was 7.5! So I only soak for one hour - max. 3 hours or it gets funky. I thought the test results were interesting and a big enough change to keep soaking for now even though pony’s recovery is going fantastic!
Hope this helps!
