Eventing was there first.
I think triathlon should change its name to ‘human eventing’.

what the fruitbat! I see they snuck in the CIC4* too. Once that happens say goodbye to CCIs forever. Why do events all cater towards the Olympic goal. Who cares about the Olympics anymore really. Eventing really is at risk here…:(
I thought I read that as the CIC4* will take the place of the CIC3* when the levels are changed. I could be way off base though…
Well yes, that name explains the sport.
The way I read the posted article the whole point of the name change is to make the sport more attractive to viewers and outside people. Combined training is not more exciting and way too logical.
In that case, we should probably change the name to “extreme adventure hardcore horse riding” or something … Think of the reality show and YouTube video possibilities! “She rides a horse out into a field full of jumps … You won’t believe what happens next!”
Well as the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for. There was a demand for unspecified “changes”… and changes we got.

The “demand for changes” included that they actually be fact and statistic driven to improve horse and rider welfare–not that some random person connected to another horsesport suggest them based on marketability.

I found that part confusing, as I understood the entire document to refer to the * system as we currently know it, but they then dropped the 5* idea in near the end. I think it would have been clearer if they had brought the 5* reference up early, and then been explicit about whether they were referring to ‘new’ **** or 'old ****.
I interpreted it as the introduction of a CIC**** at the existing **** level, FWIW, but perhaps my comprehension levels are inhibited by reading with my jaw agape?

If they do institute a CIC4* that is comparable to the CCI4*, it will give the Germans what they probably have been asking for–CIC4*s at either Aachen or Luhmuhlen or both.
So many stupid suggestions on that list. Really, please…can we just forget about the Olympics and dispense with the FEI? So many layers of Bureaucracy, populated by politicians who don’t give a shit about the ethics, safety and beauty of our sport.
And if there needs to be a name change how about “Equestrian Combined Event” so continuing to call it Eventing still makes sense but it references combined training.
Just saw this link amongst the comments at the end of the EN article. The FEI has a forum in which we can post concerns/feedback about these proposed changes. It would be great if a bunch of is could take the time to post some of the great points that have been raised on this thread. Here’s the link:

I completely missed that they had a comment area. Super! Will definitely put my $.02 in!
It does seem that you need an FEI number (therefore an FEI competitor/official/etc) to be able to comment. Will have to look up my number to post my comments.
The only sweeping change needed right now is to get rid of the FEI.
Seriously, what good are they?
SMH
I read that and can only say :-o
So much stupid.
Splitting the Olympics into a separate team and individual competition diminishes both. Neither one can be the best it can be. What we are doing now works, or just have only an individual competition.
A team with no drop score means that you’re going to have a lot of sad spectators if the first rider from a country is eliminated and the other riders withdraw. You could have 80k spectators on the field and half your competitors elect not to ride. Who wins there? No one.
Worse, it creates far more pressure - and not in a good way - for a rider to try to finish at all costs to herself or her horse.
Again, instead of some thoughtfully crafted, data-driven changes, we get, “Some guy we paid had an Idea about a Thing, and we don’t want to feel stupid about signing the check, so we are going to just implement it.”
Looks like PonyGait!
I am not sure if my spell check blew up my logic board or the 7 star drive imploded when the flags were penalized?
-possible dumb question alert-
So what would it look like if the USEA was just like “deuces FEI”? Would we still give grants to send rider’s abroad? Why go abroad if they’re all competing in Equestriathon (I think that was a name option?)? Do we add another 4* in the US? Adjust to 5*s?
Another thought: if the goal is name recognition and making the sport both appealing and easily understood to the average sport fan, why don’t we just end the tinkering with the format and rename the sport ‘Equestrian Beer Orgy’?
Isn’t it possible that it would encourage conservative riding? Take the slow route, accrue some time faults, but make sure to finish? I’m not about to jump blindly on any bandwagon, certainly not an FEI one, but I’m willing to wonder their points…
Am I reading it right that they want Team A to send riders 1, 2, and 3, and then Team B to send their 3?? That seems like a huge unmentioned change - if it rains all afternoon there go the after lunch countries…

If we call it that, I am no longer winding down

HA! And think of the sponsorship possibilities: The Guiness Tri-Eq X Riding Competition!
The after lunch countries.
