I thought that bit was made illegal last year (I remember a bit of hoopla but don’t closely follow eventing rules so could be off base).
Oh yeah, you’re right. I had forgotten about that. Is it legal in any of the other FEI disciplines? Show jumping?
I have very low expectations this year, and not just because it’s a qualifying year for all the really experienced people at this level. I managed to poorly plan my way into the following activities since late December:
selling a house in GA
Buying a house in Aiken
Buying an RV
Moving all my stuff into storage for a month (closing was 2 days ago)
Relocating me, 1 corgi, 1 pony and 4 cats, and RV and all the crap associated with combined driving to Grand oaks for Feb/mar
Nope, no stressing my life this winter lol
Oh and just for funsies, the original closing date for my sale (with pre approved financing!!!) fell apart and I was notified as I was gearing up for marathon. To say that I was unfocused was the understatement of a lifetime. Drive through f on the way to b in obs1 which they didn’t catch and then just eliminated myself by driving backwards through b on the last obs and being totally oblivious to that fact. My poor gator didn’t do that obs when she was driving her pony and it just slipped by her too. And I was so frazzled about the house I really didn’t care. The next lender approved the buyer with NO problem so this was just an asshole underwriter who should probably pray every day that my thoughts about him will never come true! So instead closing was moved back this week, kind of messing with my LOI prep. But we did two days of lessons with the GOAT and both of our brains could have used the rest after that!
Xan will miss his stall neighbor but the idea of bringing in $$ instead of spending them sure sounds nice!
Even if it was subject to the test, the way that bit works, it would be near impossible to have it too tight once you loosen the reins. It’s like a curb chain on a swale bit, very loose until leverage is applied.
Honestly, even if they do jam it through, that noseband is not going to be tight! But I suspect in most cases that’s not going to be the instinct of most TDs because it doesn’t seem too slidey, if that makes sense.
And exception for the Myler combo bit was made in Sept 2024 to allow it for national level eventing competitions but not FEI. There is a directive about it in the USEF appendix to the Eventing tack rules
Anyone know how this works with a figure eight?
It is shown in the video in the link (to purchase the tool) posted by luvmyhackney above.
oh well that’s helpful thank you
My FEI device is stuck in PA somewhere. It was supposed to be here Monday.
I’m excited to try it out.
We have been debuting the device this week at the Carolina International. Figure 8s have not proven to be problematic, and the horses have tolerated the device well.
@Mack_the_Knife Good news that that horses didn’t mind the device in use. May we know how nosebands were found to be too tight?
Very few.
