Hahahahaha! That is TOTALLY my mini’s response when he doesn’t know what you’re going for. The last trick he learned was “bang” so that’s the last thing he’ll throw out. He dies all dramatically with a whimper and flailing legs. Then he’ll bounce up and start again.

Flashy-you might go ahead and make a vet appointment for whenever you think you’ll pick the dog up, and just stop by on the way home. That way if anything major is wrong you don’t have the dog around for a few days and return it to the pound and break a bunch of hearts. Also, maybe it would be a good idea to have the vet staff wash the dog for you, since they are usually pretty stinky from the pound, and you don’t want to have your bonding experience in a new place for either of you to be the messy dog washing procedure.[/QUOTE]
Ah great idea Jan (you are always full of them!!) I’ll see if I can get her in pronto. That way the vet can get a good assessment before we even get her home for anyone to get attached to her!
And yeah she is SUPER stinky!!!

Shelter pups often are!
Update please!!!
You might want too put a cheap (think Walmart, cheap and ugly) acrylic throw or blanket on the car seat for the trip to the vet, and then you can either wash or trash it. That way your seats won’t smell. And I don’t know it she’ll want to ride on the back seat or if you should put a blanket on the car floor also. My last boy was so exhausted (the pound then had two or three dogs in a run, so he was stinky and totally exhausted and slept on the floor the entire way home) that he curled up on the floor and didn’t budge the entire trip. Unfortunately, I could get a preliminary appointment at the vet to get his shots, and heartworm preventative, but they couldn’t do the dental and neuter for a couple of weeks. I did his first bath in the tub, and since he was a Min. Schnauzer in a show clip I had to clip the mats and long hair with little scissors. He was great at it, but the groomer was appalled, but fixed it up well. I always kept him short, except for the face so it was very easy for the groomer to fix the clip and bath him to get the last stink out. He was a really good boy about bathing and grooming. I actually put the hand showers on all of the shower and tub combos, not only does it make cleaning the tub easy, but it makes dog bathing easy.
I bet most of the smell is gunk on her feet and legs, but she’ll feel better after a thorough bath anyway.
I’m happy for you. She will be perfect - I’ve always found that dogs fit in with their people and surroundings. Goodness, if our Greyhounds could come around after what they had been through, I’m sure almost anything can. She’s sooooo
sweet looking.
She’s adorable! Congratulations.
Congratulations! She is so cute!
She’s adorable!
that first pic of her melts the heart. i can see why you are now her family. what a cutie pie. and yes, i agree, the stink from the shelter does NOT need to come to your house.
You didn’t need any help, did fine on your own.
What a nice family dog you found, congratulations.
Glad your husband approved.
Both names are fine for her, I think.
Seriously cute dog!
I think Daisy isn’t bad as a name.
StG
Our neighbor’s dog is named Cutie-Pie!! I think something similar may have happened with their now-17-year-old …
FG, your girl could not be cuter. Love that soft eye and happy face. That’s a good thing!
Thanks guys!! It is fun sharing my excitement here with so many dog loving peeps! I’ve missed having a dog in my life.
She does have a very soft expression and just a general air of sweetness! She kind of reminds me of my horse, lol. As soon as I saw her I was like oh no this is it… Funny too as she is not what I was necessarily looking for but I think she is going to be just what we need.
The crate is set up and we are going to finish puppy-proofing tomorrow… my kids are pretty excited but I think I’m the most excited!
That dog looks really dangerous, def. NOT appropriate! Send her down to me so I can hug her and kiss her!
Congratulations on finding such a cute puppy!
She’s darling! Congratulations!
Congratulations and Kipper is a great name! Tell your daughter DaisyRainbow can be her middle name. Although she does kind of look like a Daisy. Besides, Kipper DaisyRainbow has a nice ring to it!

I sold a Jack pup to a gentleman with a 5 yo daughter. Their lab had just died, and the little girl was bereft. 8 months later I ran into him and asked what they’d named the puppy. This huge man got all red and sheepish, and said “Well, we let our daughter name him.” And? “She named him “BooBoo”.” This why I don’t let children name dogs.
Two years later he came into the store with a Jack, who clearly was BooBoo’s son. Gorgeous dog. Could’ve walked right into the conformation ring. “So what’s his name?” Man flushes beet red.
“Spot.”
Some people just shouldn’t be allowed to name animals!
My neighbor had a dog the kids named Honey. They were moving and had to stay in a hotel overnight. The dog got away from him in the hall and ran into another room (door was open). My neighbor was in the hall yelling…“come here Honey, come out of that room, Honey!”
She’s BEAUTIFUL! I volunteer in our local no-kill shelter as an adoption counselor, and I have to say, the houndy dogs and the labby type dogs are almost always the best fits for families with children. Plus, they generally don’t object to just chillin’ while someone strokes their ears, rubs their bellies and just hangs with them.
My last rescue is a houndy boy…he’s a bit noise sensitive, but we were quite enamored with him upon our first meet and greet. His nose does get him into trouble on occasion, but I love him all the same.
Holy crap, she is adorable!
OMG!! You could not have done any better – how precious is she and that little face just melts me!! Give her a hug and best wishes to you and your newest family member!
