Finding a Trainer

Of course, but people should go into it with the long term interest of the horse in mind right from the start, and anyone who expects to make money on owning horses is not being very realistic.

From my experience at the track, if a horse was running for a $1500 tag, if you inquired about purchasing it, the price would be at least $3k lol so purchasing privately was a bit tough. I was really more referring to the situations where you have horses that were allowance or say $40k claimers getting dropped in for $5 or something. I’d rather see the horse retired in that situation.

How do people survive at that level???

I didnt read many of the responses and my phone is about to die.

Have you considered joining a partnership? This way you own a horse with a group and you can buy shares into an older horse that’s already going or buy into a young prospect- or both.

This is a nice way to go because it’s fun to be apart of a group, you. The shopping is done by people who really know what they are doing and likely they have more access to top trainers. If things don’t go well, it’s also not a total loss for you bc you aren’t the only person footing the bill.

I have not read the entire thread but I know a lovely young trainer. She is normally in KY or Oaklawn in the winter I think. Reasonably priced and has a nice little record going. If you are interested pm me

It’s a ghost thread. The OP never came back.

Yup, lol.

Had a feeling about this thread. I figured I’d wait and see if the OP would interact. Or at least say thanks. Before I took the time post how it works IME. Some good information given by others. Some I agree with by and large and some I don’t.

Contact Laurie B on here she’s awesome

Generally speaking, someone who has to strip to pay board will struggle to pay for even the cheapest of claimers.
