Flares are commonly used on roadsides when cars break down. Not sure what planet you are on.
So, you use ground-level lighting to simulate overhead explosions of fireworks? Good to know that works for you.
Folks, please donāt let naysayers discourage you from working through problems with your horses. You can get them trained up to be good, solid citizens able to handle a wide variety of challenging situations without having to exactly duplicate each and every situation. Itās a behavioral and psychological process with the horse, and not for the impatient, but you donāt need to be an expert to do it. You just need to be patient and thorough.
Thank you for all of the responses. 1- they have āheardā the fireworks for years, and have not ālikedā them, but tolerated them - in a barn, with the doors closed/fans on. 2- they are de-sensitized to gunfire and neighbor setting off C4 right outside their pasture (donāt ask me where he got the C4ā I have no idea and am not going to ask). 3- The fireworks ARE a 2+ hour constant display of āprofessional gradeā fireworks. 4- it was the āvisualā part that threw one of them over the edge into a total panic attack, and he was drugged. 5- THIS year, I used the oral dermosodan (sp?) under their tongues. Worked great! Made sure they could not see them like last year. Will be using this going forward. Given that fireworks of this magnitude are illegal in my area, but also LE says they lack the manpower to do anything about them/turn a blind eye, I ācouldā try to de-sensitize them, but that co$tās $$. And, I have no experience in handling anything more explosive than a sparklerā¦
